- Gary Sinise on 'CSI: NY' renewal: 'We've got more stories to tell'
Published Wednesday, May 30 2012, 12:05 BST | By Morgan Jeffery | Add comment
Gary Sinise has insisted that CSI: NY deserved to be renewed.
The fate of the CSI franchise was in doubt until earlier this month, when CBS renewed NY and cancelled fellow spinoff CSI: Miami.
"I think our writers have a lot more stories in them," Sinise, who plays Mac, told TV Guide. "[They] have done a very good job of continuing to come up with interesting stories for us to play."
The actor added that he is looking forward to exploring Mac's relationship with Christine (Megan Dodds) in the show's ninth season.
"Mac may [finally] be able to move on [from his late wife]," hinted Sinise.
The decision to axe CSI: Miami was recently defended by CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler, who claimed that either that show or CSI: NY had to be dropped in order to move popular drama The Mentalist into a new slot.
"It was about keeping the flow, and Miami was the odd man out," she explained.
CSI: NY will return to CBS in the fall, airing on Fridays at 8/7c. source: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a384431/gary-sinise-on-csi-ny-renewal-weve-got-more-stories-to-tell.html?utm_source=twt&utm_medium=snets&utm_campaign=twitter | |

- ‘CSI: NY’ set to film in San Francisco next week
According to a blurb in the San Francisco Chronicle, CSI:NY will be hitting the road again next week, but instead of heading to NYC as they usually do once or twice a season, the show is going to San Francisco.
According to the story, filming in San Francisco starts Monday, August 13, for an episode that partially takes place in San Fran.
In the episode, which will air in early October, Peter Horton will guest star as a California-based FBI agent who once dated Jo (Sela Ward). While visiting NYC, Horton’s character will help Jo and Mac (Gary Sinise) with a case that brings them to San Francisco.

Exclusive: CSI: NY Producer Shares the Inside Story on This Week's Sad Twist, Happy Hook-Up Warning: The following contains spoilers from this Friday’s episode of CSI: NY.
This week on CBS’ CSI: NY, matters of love and… well, mortality… loomed large, as one crimesolver pulled the trigger on romance, while another was dealt an entirely different hand. Co-executive producer Trey Callaway, who penned the hour, gave TVLine the inside story on both developments and previewed what comes next.
STOP, IN THE NAME OF LOVE | On the happier note, “Flavato” fans — aka those who’ve been wanting Detectives Flack and Lovato (played by Eddie Cahill and Natalie Martinez) to become partners in a very different way — saw the new year get off to a promising start, as the duo went on a date (and even got a bit physical).
That the procedural took this leap with a workplace romance was almost happenstance. Recalling the addition of Martinez for Season 9, Callaway says, “It wasn’t a case of, ‘We’re going to cast this woman to be Don Flack’s girlfriend.’ That was the furthest thing from our minds.” But when the writers first saw Cahill and Martinez on screen together, “We all sat around with dumb smiles on our faces saying, ‘There’s something here.’ And then we begin to write to it. The chemistry was abundant, and we took it to the next level.”
As for whether the detectives will keep their romance on the down low, Callaway notes, “It’s probably something that would be under wraps for a while, but the flip side is that when you start to fall in love, you’re in love, and you want to share it with the rest of your family — even if it’s your ‘work family.’” RELATED | CSI: NY Scoop: Smallville‘s Laura Vandervoort Is Hot for Revenge!
RICH MAN, POOR MAN | More significantly, CSI: NY‘s winter premiere shared two big reveals about Sid. One was surfaced by Jo, who discovered that an anonymous “Guardian Angel” who’d been gifting downtrodden individuals with million-dollar checks was none other than the mild-mannered M.E. But it’s the why of Sid’s largesse that shook longtime fans: As confided to Jo, he’s been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Callaway says that series vet Robert Joy was given a heads-up on this twist “early on” in the season, “because Bob is not only an extraordinary actor, he’s just someone that is a wonderful human being.” And since Callaway wrote the Season 8 episode in which Sid got (very) rich from a patent, “I wanted to tell the next chapter in that story.”
To that end, Callaway initially set out to simply reveal that Sid was gifting money to the loved ones of victims who touched the M.E. “He knew their lives had been irrevocably impacted, so he wanted to make a difference in their lives, positively,” explains the scribe. When Callaway pitched that story to showrunner Pam Veasey, “She loved it, then said, ‘…but how about we do this,’ and she added the extra, incredibly emotional layer of exploring an illness.”
The minute that Veasey suggested that wrinkle, “I got a knot in my throat,” Callaway shares. “We all love Sid — he’s certainly a beloved character — so it was one of those things that, from a writing standpoint, felt perfect. And let me tell you, I wrote it and I’ve watched it several dozen times, and I still get choked up. All of us know someone or have lost someone to some form of cancer, so it’s very resonant.” What’s more, in the hands of Joy and Sela Ward, Callaway “knew that these two performers were going to be so in their zone when it came to bringing it to life. Whatever I wrote on paper, they elevated 100-fold through their sheer skill.” (In fact, he recalls seeing at least one cameraman wiping tears away during the shoot. “That’s when I thought, ‘Oh, this is one of those moments.’”)
Will Sid live to see any possible Season 10? Callaway is bullish on the medical examiner’s short-term prognosis, saying, “As far as we’re concerned, Bob Joy is not going anywhere.” That said, “This is definitely a very different and personal struggle Sid is going to have to face – and he’s lucky to have a friend in Jo to support him through it.”

- CSI' and 'CSI: NY' crossover: Gary Sinise visits Ted Danson ... and vice versa
By Jay Bobbin February 6, 2013 5:00 PM ET
It's not the first time "CSI" series have crossed over, but a couple of firsts are still involved.
Gary Sinise's Detective Mac Taylor leaves the Big Apple to visit his girlfriend Christine (Megan Dodds) in Las Vegas as a new story begins on CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" Wednesday (Feb. 6). The problem: When he arrives, she can't be found. The mystery comes to involve D.B. Russell (Ted Danson), leading him to follow Taylor back East as the tale concludes on "CSI: NY" Friday (Feb. .
Though Sinise was involved in two tales that merged his series with the now-finished "CSI: Miami," he's never been on the set of the Vegas-set parent drama before, And since Danson joined "CSI" only last season, this is his first opportunity to visit a related show, and also to work with fellow Emmy winner and acting veteran Sinise.
"He's such a sweet man," Danson tells Zap2it. "We had a lot of fun, and he's such a professional. I've always admired him as an actor, hugely, and I really like what he does with his life ... his band (the Lt. Dan Band, which frequently plays concerts to benefit America's military) and his celebrity. It's astounding what he does for the troops."
Sinise makes it a mutual-admiration society, saying, "Ted's a wonderful guy who's been around the business for a long time and has done a lot of great things. He's beloved in the industry, and he's just a nice man. A good guy to be around, just very easygoing."
As Mac tries to locate Christine, "easygoing" doesn't necessarily apply, Sinise confirms. "He is driven not only by finding the bad guys this time, but by preventing something bad happening to his love. He's connected to this personally in a way that drives him a bit over the line."
So much so, crew members had memories of an earlier Sinise character: Jimmy Shaker, the cop turned vicious kidnapper and extortionist in the Ron Howard-directed 1996 thriller "Ransom." That movie's final act played out intensely and violently on -- ironically enough -- the streets of New York.
"In this crossover, Mac is pushing things," Sinise says, "because the clock is ticking on the life of his girl. He gets a little impatient, and I asked after we shot a scene, 'Do you think that was a little too much? Do you think it was a little Jimmy Shaker-ish?' And they were like, 'Oh, no, no. That was Mac Taylor. Jimmy Shaker is evil.'"
Having dealt largely with the same cast and crew since joining "CSI" in the fall of 2011 (though he was present for Marg Helgenberger's exit and Elisabeth Shue's arrival), Danson reflects, "It's fun to go over and meet new actors. When you do that, it becomes like a little 'acting summer camp,' and I'm interested in who I'm going to get to play with.
"I have to admit that when I first heard we were going to do a crossover, I got all excited: 'I'm going to fly to New York!' But no, I went five minutes to Radford," the Los Angeles studio where much of 'CSI: NY' typically is filmed.
Still, Danson was happy to stay close to home in a work sense. "A lot of people have been here from Day One," he reports of the "CSI" staff, "and most have been here at least seven or eight years. Everybody really understands how lucky we all are, and there's a lot of gratitude. The crew is such a well-oiled machine, we're 12 hours, in and out. We never do the really, really crazy work hours."
"CSI" is now in its 12th season, while "CSI: NY" soon wraps its 9th -- the finale airs Friday, Feb. 22 -- with hopes for a 10th. Recent developments, such as Dr. Sid Hammerback's (Robert Joy) cancer revelation and Detective Lindsay Monroe Messer's (Anna Belknap) second pregnancy, indicate the East Coast-themed show's writers and producers have been thinking ahead.
A producer of "CSI: NY" as well, Sinise hesitates to make any predictions about another renewal, since it cut so close last spring ("They called me about an hour before it hit the Internet."). Whatever ultimately happens, the actor is pleased with the way his character has played out.
"We've watched Mac over the last nine seasons as somebody who's really work-obsessed, very devoted. We understood early on that he lost his wife in the World Trade Center (on 9/11), and only one other time did he have the potential for love, when Claire Forlani was on the show for a season. This person he's met, Christine, is somebody he's very committed to. The idea of losing her is very disturbing to him."
