Fans of the hit series "Criminal Minds" will have something new to look forward to sometime next year. However, fans are a little bit apprehensive about the new show since the previous spin-off "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" was a dismal failure and only lasted for 13 episodes, even if it had Academy Award-winning Hollywood actor Forest Whitaker leading the cast.

Actor Gary Sinese will play the team's head Jack.

Showrunner Erica Messer spoke about the forthcoming spin-off and what she learned from the previous spin-off failure. "In a word, many. The most noticeable one is: How are you the same but different," she said. There are many different ways to go about it and that is what makes this spin-off so different from the last one.

This new spin-off, however, shows greater promise and unique potential as seen in the interesting and intriguing backdoor pilot that was aired on mother show Criminal Minds. In the episode aptly titled "Beyond Borders," the BAU team gets a hellish case involving a gullible family that gets kidnapped in Barbados. It requires them to seek the assistance of another powerful team that specifically deals with Americans who have international problems.

The team has a powerhouse cast, which includes "CSI: NY" star Gary Sinise as Jack Garrett, the keen and responsible head of the international unit; "The Walking Dead" star Tyler James Williams as Monty, the team's zany and quirky technology expert; "Forever" star Alana de la Garza as Clara, the brainy and exuberant cultural anthropologist; "The Affair" star Annie Funke as Mae, the vivacious and brave medical examiner of the team; and actor Daniel Henney as Matt, the determined and solid special ops agent.

The new series will follow another elite team of agents who help American citizens in foreign countries. This series will not necessarily be all about serial killers, like its mother show and its predecessor, but will focus on a much broader range of problems that leaves it open to pretty much anything the writers can think of.

Fans will not know if the series will suffer the same fate as the last spin-off until the show premiers; however, based on the backdoor pilot alone, the series looks very promising.

Actor Gary Sinise, who plays Unit Chief Jack Garrett, a seasoned 20-year veteran of the FBI, explained what drew him to the role. " to show somebody who was able to balance home and work, even though he's dealing with a very dark world."

At the The Television Critics Association press tour event on Tuesday, the cast and crew of the new CBS show explained what viewers can expect from the spinoff series. Premiering March 16, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders focuses on the specialized International Division of the FBI tasked with solving crimes and coming to the rescue of Americans who find themselves in danger while abroad.

While the CBS hit Criminal Minds focuses on crimes in America, the new show will exclusively focus on incidents abroad. "There are more stories to tell here", explained Executive Producer Erica Messer, who wanted to differentiate the new show from its originator. "There's a great big world out there...[and] 68 million Americans leave the States every year."

Executive Producer Mark Gordon stressed that he wanted to create a show that is fresh and different, while still honoring the original show with Beyond Borders' unique identity. Of course, wandering the globe takes a bit of work, for which the show's production design team is well supplied with green screens, visual effects and lush sets.

"I would defy anyone to watch the show and not believe that we are traveling", said Gordon. "I'm thrilled with the way the show works, its gorgeous."

The TCA event also featured many cast members: Daniel Henney, who plays Matthew Simmons, a former military hero with split-second profiling skills; Tyler James Williams, who plays Russ "Monty" Montgomery, the unit’s compassionate, brilliant tech analyst; and Annie Funke, who plays the team’s fearless and fun medical examiner, Mae Jarvis.

Funke, for her part, shared how the show's set changed her view on traveling: "I discovered that my new favorite way to travel is by private jet that doesn't move."[/i]

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders viewers will get to meet Jack Garrett's (Gary Sinise) wife soon - and her face may be familiar.

ER alum Sherry Stringfield has joined the CBS show as Karen Garrett, Jack's wife and mom to the couple's five kids, TVLine reports. Her face will be easily recognizable to fans of CBS shows, as she's done stints on CSI and Under the Dome. She'll make her debut in May and is likely to return next season if the show is renewed.

En effet Criminal Minds se voit débarquer non pas 1 ni 2 ni 3 mais 4 acteurs de Supernatural.

Matt Cohen,Richard Speight Jr,Osric Chau et Rob Benedict seront donc présents durant la s2.
Un peu plus de détails sur leur rôle:Matt Cohen sera Ryan, le fils de Jack Garrett. C'est un rôle récurrent et il apparaîtra dès le 1er épisode prévu pour la mi-saison. Ryan suivra les traces de son père afin de devenir lui aussi un agent spécial du FBI.
De son côté, Osric Chau apparaitra dans l'épisode 2x03 et incarnera un personnage mystérieux surnommé "Gui", qui veut dire "Fantôme".
Enfin, Richard Speight Jr. et Rob Benedict sont toujours inséparables, puisqu'ils incarneront deux associés qui se rendront au Bangladesh afin de conclure un contrat pour leur entreprise de fabrication de vêtements. Les deux compères apparaitront dans l'épisode 2x05.
