Those Wesen don’t know what they’re in for.

Grimm has cast Carlson Young, who plays Scream‘s resident spoiled-brat-with-a-heart-of-gold, in its fifth season, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Young will portray Selina Golias, a character force to hide the survivor of an attack that resulted in her boyfriend’s death. As a result, Selina becomes the target of a Wesen “king” who doesn’t mind if she becomes collateral damage in a neverending Wesen feud.

In addition to her work as Scream‘s Brooke Maddox, Young has appeared on Key & Peele, True Blood, The League and Pretty Little Liars, among other series.

Grimm returns to NBC on Friday, Oct. 30 (9/8c).

Why, exactly, are there so many Wesen in Portland, anyway? That pivotal question will set the tone for the supernatural drama's fifth season, says co-creator James Kouf. "It's the rise of the Wesen, and there's going to be a big movement going on there," adds co-creator David Greenwalt. "But at the same time, we're going to have our good, old-fashioned episodes with Nick [and the gang] solving stuff." You'll have to forgive Det. Burkhardt if he's a bit distracted, though; after all, his mother and girlfriend died in violent fashion in his house, and his former-demon baby mama will have a harrowing time bringing forth their opposite-of-love child. Look for the Nick-Adalind relationship to warm after the spawn arrives, though. "She's finding another side of herself," Kouf says. "So is Nick," Greenwalt adds. In other huge news: The series' central, somewhat foggy key mythology will be revisited. Or, as Greenwalt puts it, "We're actually going to explain the damn thing!"

BONUS SPOILER!: This season's Wesen include a Loch Ness Monster-like creature and a rat king.

Monster hunter Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) was left devastated at the end of last season by the decapitation murder of his mother, Kelly (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), and the necessary slaying of his lover-turned-Hexenbeist, Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch). How does a guy recover from all that trauma? Giuntoli previews the hell—and the payback—to come when Grimm returns for Season 5 (Friday, Oct. 30, 9/8c, NBC)

What’s Nick’s mental state in the season opener?
He’s gone rogue. He no longer cares about police protocol. In fact, Nick no longer cares about his job. He starts [the season] in an extremely dark place, the exact opposite of how we met him at the start of the series, where he was 99 percent cop and 1 percent Grimm. Now he’s 99 percent Grimm and out for revenge against the Wesen world. But in our season premiere, he’ll focus that revenge on one person in particular. But first there’s Juliette’s funeral. That’s our zany season opener.

This being Grimm, we have to ask: Is Juliette really dead? As in dead dead?
Well, we’ve already shot pretty deep into the season and we’ve seen no sign of her. When a supernatural show proves to its audience that its characters are mortal and can indeed die, it ups the stakes. If we know our people can survive anything, what’s the point of toying with their fates? We don’t want to be that show that can fix anything, including death, with the perfect potion.

Speaking of potions, how do Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) react to Rogue Nick?
Oh, they’re dead, too. [Laughs] Juuuust kidding! Monroe and Rosalee are the worrying parents Nick never had. They always try to have his back, but now Nick is constantly giving them ulcers…but Rosalee probably has an elixir for that. The entire Scooby Gang is trying to contain Nick. Captain Renard (Sasha Ruiz) has had it with him and wants him off the force. Hank (Russell Hornsby) and Wu (Reggie Lee) think Nick has lost it and that he’s a danger to himself and to them. And they’re right. But Nick’s still on the job and getting a paycheck. He’s no fool.

Word is, the Royal Family plot is history. True?
Enough with the Royals! This is America! Bring on the monsters! We’re getting back to our “Wesen of the week” format, which we lost along the way when we got so deep into the Royals. That’s the true spirit of our show. We have a lot of really cool new creatures and mythological themes coming this season. Somehow the real source of our drama ran away with the spoon, but it’s back.

Good news: Nick is going to be a dad. Bad news: He was tricked into it by Adalind (Claire Coffee) the Hexenbeist. How will those two handle this twisted take on parenthood?
That baby is the only thing that keeps Nick from lopping off his own head. Having a son grounds him. He’s pretty much stuck with Adalind in this oddball, co-parenting situation, but his paternal instincts really kick in, and he wants to make sure nothing happens to them, so he’s going to move his new family into a bunker.

You mean like a doomsday prepper?
Exactly. He makes that bunker supersafe. Take your average home-security system and multiply it by several million. Nick means business. He doesn’t want anyone to know where he lives. Ever. And that actually strengthens his relationship with Adalind. This strange bedfellows situation is hard for her, too. But, out of necessity and for the safety of the child, they have to trust each other. In a weird way, they bond.

Well, there’s nothing sexier than a hunky man with a baby.
Hell, yeah! [Laughs] Just wait until you see Nick holding that child. Oooh-wee! Hexenbeist hearts everywhere are going to melt.

Ausiello: The NBC series is bringing in Monroe’s uncle, a German man named Felix Dietrich who is described as “bespectacled, bookish [and] slightly off-center.” (Shocker, right?) In the course of his work as an antiquarian bookseller, Felix will come across some very old volumes about Grimms — which is helpful, considering Juliette destroyed a lot of that kind of thing when she torched the trailer — then find himself followed by those who are willing to kill in order to secure the books. He’ll show up in the United States to ask for Monroe’s help. Look for Uncle Felix to make his debut in Episode 10.

We won't have to wait long to learn all about Eve, say the NBC series' co-creators; in the winter premiere, Burkhardt will have a sit-down with the woman wearing his former girlfriend's face. "Finally, Nick and Eve will have a big, bold scene. We learn about what happened to her, who she is now and what she is now," executive producer David Greenwalt says. For a change of pace, the following episode, "A Reptile Dysfunction," is "funny and dark," he adds. "It's very Fargo-esque," says EP James Kouf. Meanwhile, the Wesen uprising continues to build, leading to what Greenwalt calls "a battle for the world between Hadrian's Wall and Black Claw." But don't think that there won't be time for an escalation of the Nick-Adalind relationship — though many of you thought this photo was merely her assisting him with his contacts, "It has nothing to do with contacts," Kouf says, laughing knowingly.

Ausiello: We asked executive producers David Greenwalt and James Kouf that exact question. “He’s too young,” Kouf said, laughing. “He’s not even eating solid food yet!” But Greenwalt hinted that Nick and Adalind’s offspring might start to show otherworldly tendencies “in the next handful” of episodes.

There’s lots of movement in the Portland Police Department these days: In addition to Grimm‘s Capt. Renard leaving the force to become mayor, State of Affairs star Chris McKenna is joining the NBC supernatural drama as a “formidable” lieutenant, TVLine has learned.

McKenna will play Lt. Grossante, a “formidable and driven” an “military-type” cop, per the official character description. McKenna, who announced his casting via Twitter on Tuesday, is officially signed on for one episode but will probably appear in more.

No word yet on whether or not Grossante is Wesen, but this is Grimm, so… you do the monster math.

McKenna’s extensive TV resumé includes stints on One Life to Live, 90210, Castle, NCIS: Los Angeles, Private Practice and The Young and the Restless. He most recently appeared as Dr. Hayden on The Bold and the Beautiful.

NBC has not yet announced when Grimm’s upcoming sixth season — which was trimmed to 13 episodes in April — will premiere. “There may or may not be more episodes. It may or may not be the last season. These are things we don’t yet know,” executive producer David Greenwalt told TVLine after the season finale. “We’re certainly thinking of arcs for next year, and then [the episode order] will determine how long it takes to do that.”
