Comic-Con 2011: The Vampire Diaries
By Louis Peitzman July 25, 2011
Vampires. Werewolves. Witches. Steamy love scenes. No, not True Blood—I’m referring to TV’s other supernatural romance, The Vampire Diaries. Before Saturday’s Comic-Con panel, we were able to chat with a few cast members and writers of the CW series. Here’s what Ian Somerhalder (Damon), Nina Dobrev (Elena/Katherine), Julie Plec (executive producer), and Kevin Williamson (executive producer) had to say about last season’s cliffhanger and what’s to come in Season 3. On Stefan going bad… “Stefan has taken on with Klaus for a greater agenda. Klaus is up to something. And that’s sort of the first chapter of our story.” – Williamson “He’s got it in him. He’s pretty hardcore when he falls off the edge, and it’s not just gonna be one and done with him. We wanted our hero to go down a really dark road, and we’re gonna take him down that really dark road for a while. But there’ll be levels of bad that I think Paul Wesley is really excited to explore. But no, we’re not gonna back off from that.” – Plec “What we don’t want to do is homogenize a hero or a villain by not taking them to the edge. And you’re rolling the dice that your audience will be able to come back from it. So it’ll be risky. It’s very risky, and we’ll see how we can get him out the other side, but we’ll sure as hell be rooting for him to get out the other side.” – Plec “Stefan has that push-pull with Klaus. He tried to save his brother, yet ultimately he’s compelled and he’s going along with the whole thing.” – Somerhalder On Damon becoming the “good” Salvatore brother… “By no means are they swapping personalities, but yes, Damon, unfortunately—I think his big beef with Stefan is like, ‘Hey, man, you went and fell off the edge, and now I’ve gotta be here and clean up your mess.’ And it’s a nice role reversal for the two brothers … Damon isn’t going to be happy about it, and he’s certainly not going to go gently into it. He’s not going to take that role on with much pleasure.” – Plec “Damon is like this reluctant hero. … It’s not his role in life. He’s not good at it. And he’s gonna constantly save—because Elena’s going to be there pushing him on to be the hero, but his nature is to kill people. So it’s gonna be interesting. That conflict will escalate and blow up.” – Williamson “Ultimately he’s pretty pissed off. For two seasons he tried to get his brother to be what he wanted him to be, to just eat and destroy everything in their paths. Which would have been fun, to sort of be who he really is. So we tried that for two seasons. Now Stefan’s running around with Klaus, this dude that Damon absolutely hates. He tried to kill him. Doing all those fun things he was trying to get his brother to do. Not only that—now Damon’s stuck in Mystic Falls with this girl he loves, 150 years younger than he is, who a) doesn’t want him, and b) it’s his brother’s girl, so he ultimately can’t do that. I think he’s really not happy with the way things have turned out. But I think he’s gonna rise to the occasion, and he’s gonna have fun doing whatever it is.” – Somerhalder On the Stefan-Elena-Damon love triangle… “At the end of Season 2, Katherine uttered that one line, ‘It’s OK to love both of them.’ We’re gonna sort of watch that play out. And what does that mean? It meant one thing for Katherine. What’s it going to mean for Elena? You can love someone brotherly. You can love someone as a friend. And I just think romantic love—it may not be OK to love both of them. I think that’s the journey. She’s got a big journey, because 100 percent, yes, she’s attracted to this man [Damon]. Yes, she loves Stefan unbelievably—I mean, it’s an epic love that’s never going to change.” – Williamson “People keep talking about this steamy kiss. And I don’t know if anyone was really paying attention, but Damon was pale, bleeding, and sweating profusely. So I’m not exactly sure how passionate it was. But he definitely remembers it.” – Somerhalder “She gets something from Damon she doesn’t get from Stefan. They laugh. They prod at each other. They bicker. There’s even a line in the next episode, where Alaric even says, ‘What are you guys, 12?’ Because they have this kind of cute banter thing happening.” – Somerhalder “I’m pretty sure there’s another brother somewhere that’s the hybrid of the two of them … I think Elena’s got it good. She’s got both of them after her, so … she gets both. She’s a smart woman.” – Dobrev “Just because [Damon’s] there and Stefan’s not doesn’t mean she’s going to fall into his arms. I think she realized that she was in big trouble once she found out that Damon was going to survive after she kissed him.” – Dobrev On Jeremy seeing dead people… “It’s a story that’s going to kind of slowly unfold. It’s gonna have both a great supernatural genre element to it, but also a really strong emotional element to it, which I think is one of the reasons we wanted to do it. Because you’ve got this kid that—in the second-to-last episode, Elena says, ‘I’m so sorry you’ve lost so many people.’ And he has. He’s just a kid when all is said and done, and the two first loves of his life [Vicki and Anna] are now popping around.” – Plec “We’re slowly sort of unveiling what these ghost-like people are. … It’ll be interesting to see how Bonnie gets in the middle of it, and sort of helps him stop seeing dead people. And also, they’re his ex-girlfriends. They’re the two other people he’s loved. The only two.” – Williamson
On Caroline/Tyler… “Caroline and Tyler, they’ve got such wonderful chemistry, those two. The characters have been through so much together. Tyler’s been exposed to his core, and she’s been right there holding his hair back, proverbially. So we’ll see … how long that stays just friends. Because it’s kind of inevitable that there’s gonna be some action happening there eventually.” – Plec On poor human Matt… “Poor Matt has hit some hard times in life. I loved what he said to her at the end of the season, which is, ‘My life was hard enough without all this stuff. I think I’m gonna just go try and live it, and keep myself away from the supernatural.’ But one of the last things we saw at the end of the season, of course, was his sister Vicki making an appearance to Jeremy.” – Plec “I personally love him as a human character. I want to also show that relationship with how he views the supernatural world, because Mystic Falls has clearly got something wrong with it … It’s gonna be interesting to watch our one standing human character—a) to see how long he survives, and b) what’s his relationship to the people around him, and the lies and the betrayal and all the stuff that’s happening.” – Williamson On Katherine’s return… “Katherine last year was our Mini-Bad. She started as the Bad and became the Mini-Bad. She got a lot of showcasing last year, and we definitely haven’t seen the last of her. It’s just a matter of when we’re gonna see her again. That’s the fun surprise.” – Plec “I definitely enjoy playing both, because there’s never a dull day. … A lot of the physical changes are what help me. When I look in the mirror, I just feel different when I’m Katherine or when I’m Elena. And my voice changes a little bit. And even just mentally. I feel like I can get away with a lot more, and I think differently. I get a little more sassy on set when I’m Katherine. I’m a little more reserved and Elena-esque otherwise.” – Dobrev On new villains… “We have Klaus. And with Klaus comes a whole host of problems and people and characters. The werewolves are still out there, and now that he’s a hybrid it’s kind of interesting to see what he’s up to. And the original family, which we hope to meet as the series progresses.” – Williamson On Alaric’s new role… “Alaric’s gonna be struggling with this role that he sort of accidentally stepped into at the end of last season, where he of course decided to spend the night. And when we come back for our premiere, we’ll see that he’s been basically living on the couch for a little while. And struggling with suddenly feeling like he doesn’t have enough to offer as a guardian, as a mentor, because he himself is kind of going through a hard time in his life.” – Plec On Jenna’s death… “It was a hard one. I don’t know if there was a decision. It was something we toyed with maybe a little bit on and off in the first year and into the second year. And we just sort of felt, once we started developing the third season, and we kind of knew—it would be great for Alaric to do this, it would be great for this stuff to happen. I couldn’t really figure out where [Jenna] might have fit in in that world. And I just didn’t want Aunt Jenna in the kitchen with the oatmeal or the coffee, and just being this human character that just had these WB scenes in the morning. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with the character. I struggled with it.” – Williamson “I thought, let’s send her out. Let’s send her out in a beautiful way, and let’s have it mean something. Let’s once again let our characters deal with death up front and personally. I just thought it would have an emotional impact that would be devastating, and a way in which, it just shows you the repercussions of living in this town.” – Williamson The Vampire Diaries returns September 15 on the CW.

'Vampire Diaries' Season 3 Preview: Nina Dobrev Talks Damon, Stefan's Changing Roles Posted 2 hrs ago by Nuzhat Naoreen in 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, TV News, Videos Confession time: We're a little nervous about season three of "Vampire Diaries." We've never been big on change, and with Stefan (Paul Wesley) going to the dark side and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) embracing his inner anti-hero, it's pretty clear that Mystic Falls is about to get a heavy dose of it.
So when we caught up with Nina Dobrev during San Diego Comic-Con, we asked her to weigh in on how she feels about her main men (on screen at least!) switching roles. Luckily, she's handling it a lot better than we are.
"Paul is very happy that Stefan is now going to the bad side," Nina said. "He's really excited about it, and I think it's going to be great for him. He's a very strong actor, so it's awesome."
But with Paul tapping into Stefan's nefarious side, will Damon become Mystic Fall's resident good guy? When we spoke to Ian that same day he made it clear that Damon wouldn't be losing his edge, and Nina seemed to second that.
"He's as heroic as Damon can be," she said. "Damon will always have a rough, kind of tough side to him, so take that as you will. He has redeeming qualities but he's still damaged goods in many ways, as we all are. We've all got baggage." Judging from her answer, we've got a feeling that even with the "good guy" weight on his shoulders, Damon's going to manage to sneak in a good load of trouble.
Nina also explained that mixing things up is exciting, especially for a show like "TVD."
"These characters grow and they have arcs and they change and they go through so much, and that's one of the really cool things about television," she explained.
Her perspective reminded us that change is what "TVD" does best, and now, rather than worrying about how the next season is going to play out, we're just going to buckle up and prepare for all the twists and turns ahead.
What are you hoping happens in season three? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
Question: Do you have any new Vampire Diaries scoop? —Samantha Ausiello: Buffy the Vampire Slayer is set to guest on the show!!!! Well, OK, not so much Buffy. But a vampire slayer, at least. The incoming character, named Eric (a nod to True Blood’s sexiest fanger?), is a middle-aged hottie who, from what I hear, is sorta like Indiana Jones with a stake instead of a whip. In possibly related news, check out what EP Julie Plec told us at Comic-Con when asked her if there were plans to introduce a baddie bigger than Klaus this season. “I would definitely say that Klaus isn’t the worst baddie that we’ve seen so far. It will be fun to see who’s going to steal his thunder eventually as we get deep into Season 3.” Hmm…

Spoilers Saison 3 : Scène d'ouverture, ferme, Delena, Matt, Vicki

'Vampire Diaries' Star Paul Wesley Hints Evil Stefan Isn't Here To Stay
With all the drama that unfolded in Mystic Falls last season, "Vampire Diaries" fans are very excited to learn what all their favorite characters will be up to in season three. Personally, I'm most curious about the personality changes in the brothers Salvatore. Lucky for me, I happened upon the actors playing the men in question at Entertainment Weekly's Comic-Con party recently and was able to get the lowdown on how they're approaching their characters' new moods this season. Very pretty Paul Wesley explains:
"I'm excited to do something different with Stefan," he told MTV News about playing his character's darker side. "I love the heroic nature and the noble side—that's always going to be a part of him—but I'm excited to try something different for a little bit, not forever," he teased, hinting that evil Stefan's time on the show may be short-lived. (If this arc is anything à la Angel's in season two of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," I will be totally pleased.)
When I asked if Paul is excited for Stefan to get a little more feisty with brother Damon, he admitted that if it came down to a serious fight between the two, Stefan would win out every time.
"I think at the end of the day Stefan would take Damon in a heartbeat," he said with a smile. "[But] as much as we spar and we're hostile with one another, we really love each other," he added. "Our characters love each other, and I think that's why it's an interesting dynamic. We say all this stuff but at the end of the day we don't really mean it."
Awwww. Can you say bromance? How cute are those boys?
Interview: Julie Plec Talks About Vampire Diaries Season 3

After two very successful introductory seasons, The Vampire Diaries starts its third season September 15 on The CW -- and it picks up with several of the cliffhangers that were left with the Season 2 finale.
Executive Producer Julie Plec spoke with KSiteTV and several other outlets at press roundtables at the recent Comic-Con International in San Diego. She talks about Klaus, Stefan, Damon, Elena, ghosts from the past, what being a supernatural creature does to one's libido, and more.

What can you tell us about the start of Season Three?
I can tell you that we did ourselves and the audience a favor, hopefully, at the end of Season Two, by laying out a little sampler platter of what was in store. And then we'll follow through with it. We've got Stefan having taken a bullet, so to speak, for Damon, as Damon and Elena were reaching an understanding in their own friendship, that was probably a little more profound than either were anticipating. We have Stefan back in the blood and back in the dark side with Klaus. We have strange and curious visitations from characters of the past, that we lost along the way. So we've got a lot of stuff to kick us off, the first of which, obviously, just being "Where is Stefan?" Is he alive? Is he dead? How can we find him? How can we help him? How can we save him? And ultimately, can he be or does he want to be saved?
How did he and Klaus spend their summer vacation?
I think that Klaus and Stefan have been kicking their way through the southwestern states of America, one dive bar at a time.
They've been on a little bit of a journey, and we'll learn a little bit about that. What they've been up to. What Klaus wants. Why he wants Stefan to do it with him. And that's going to be part of the first couple of episodes.
Is Tyler still in town?
Yes. Tyler's around. Tyler and Caroline are friends. Friends - very important, they're friends.
There is a moment in the first episode where they admit that the urges that come along with being a supernatural being - physically - are a little overwhelming. While last year, they were struggling with all of the horrible parts of being supernatural entities, they start to discuss a little bit about the side effects of being a vampire or a werewolf. I think there's a quote - and I haven't said it before - but I think Tyler says "I'm just horny all the time." [laughs]
Are you still having a lot of fun writing the series?
Surprisingly it's getting easier. It's not getting easy, by any means, but I think because we know these characters so well, and the audience knows them so well, there's almost a storytelling comfort, that you'd know that the audience is with you on this ride, and so they're going to be willing to explore things with you, whereas when you're starting a series, you're like "We have no idea if someone's going to like this character or hate them, or if this story's going to work."
Now we're in the groove and we're all thinking and breathing like one organic storytelling machine. It's not easy, but it's not as terribly nervous-breakdown-inducing painful as it was in the beginning.
Can you say anything about Elijah?
I love him. He might be my favorite character - don't tell anybody else. [Laughs]
We've already said that this is the year where we're going to explore the origins of the Originals. We're going to see more about the original family, and that will involve our friend Mr. Daniel Gillies, at the very least in flashbacks.
Were Damon and Elena brought closer together as a result of fan reaction?
We're trying to tell the story that we started the show wanting to tell. It's a girl who has lost a lot of people in her life, who finds warmth and comfort and solace in one brother, and then ultimately finds herself the object of the affections for the other brother. Elena is growing up. There is definitely a road that can be traveled between Damon and Elena in the life of the series, absolutely, and right now they're alone in Mystic Falls without Stefan, but also, they're trying desperately to help and rescue Stefan. So, their complicated relationship will only become more complicated very early on, and will continue to be complicated all season.
When you killed off certain characters in the past, did you always know you'd bring them back at the end of Season 2 with Jeremy?
No. Actually, that was something that we came up with this year, early in the season, but when we kill people, we usually mean business. We say "Sorry, man, you're done. We love you, but you're done."
It was more about showing the consequences of Bonnie using too much power, and Jeremy, who finally is finding himself in this - I say the word "functional" although it's completely dysfunctional, in that she's a big powerful witch and he's a kid with an eternity ring - but still, there's something nice and safe about Bonnie and Jeremy, and the first thing we're doing is screwing that up by having him confronted with people from his past that he actually loved quite a lot. And his first love. You never forget your first love. You never forget your second love. By the time you get to your third love, you're like "Eh. Whatever." [laughs]
Can you talk at all about the motivations of Klaus?
There's got to be some reason why Klaus wanted to be a hybrid, that's more than just "I'm the only one of my kind." I think what we've already seen in his character, is he has a power complex. And I think, having been rejected by his own family, and taking it out on them one dagger at a time, I think that we'll get a window into his desire to build a new family, so to speak, in the form of "can he create more like him?"
It is creepy. But where one hybrid goes, there certainly are more to follow, I hope, for Klaus's sake.

'Vampire Diaries' exec hints at Matt struggles Wednesday, August 3 2011, 10:07 BST By Catriona Wightman, TV Reporter
The Vampire Diaries' executive producer Julie Plec has hinted that Jeremy will not be the only person who is able to see dead people when the show returns.
In the second season finale, Jeremy (Steven R McQueen) was brought back to life after being shot and was able to see his dead girlfriends Anna (Malese Jow) and Vicki (Kayla Ewell).
However, Plec has now revealed that Matt (Zach Roerig) will also be able to see Vicki, his late sister.
"Matt is struggling with the lingering [supernatural] element in his dead sister, who's popping up to Jeremy," she told TV Line.
"We'll get to see Matt struggle with, 'My dead sister is paying visits to my ex-girlfriend's brother, who used to sleep with my dead sister'."
Plec has previously revealed that Anna and Vicki have a "master plan", but has explained that Jeremy will not understand what is happening when the show returns.
The third season of The Vampire Diaries will premiere on The CW on September 15

A lire ci-dessous.

The Vampire Diaries Preview: Get Ready for a Scary-Fun 'Ripper Stefan' Roadshow
A very bad man is coming to The Vampire Diaries, and his name Stefan. Ripper Stefan. After two seasons of living his life as Saint Stefan (as Damon likes to call him), Elena’s good-hearted boyfriend did the unthinkable to save his brother. Stefan gave himself up to Klaus and drank from a human girl in exchange for the cure — Klaus’ blood — to Damon’s werewolf bite. But the scary fun of what executive producer Julie Plec calls “the Stefan/Klaus roadshow” is just beginning.
Joseph Morgan, the man who plays Klaus, has some thoughts about how bad — and good for viewers — Stefan’s horrific transformation is going to get. “What we’re going to get to see is how dark Stefan can go,” shared Mogran at Comic-Con. “The interesting thing is that Klaus has given Stefan permission to release that darker side of himself. We’re going to see…what Klaus’ ultimate goal is with Stefan and for Stefan.”
The answers won’t come quickly, though, and neither will a reunion with the residents of Mystic Falls. “This is not going to be a short storyline,” reveals Plec. “We’re going to be exploring the levels of Stefan and his dark side for hopefully a good amount of time.” Some of the questions that Plec says will arise during Stefan’s sojourn: “How long will he stay separated? Will they be able to help him, find him, rescue him, bring him back from the edge? Or will he keep fighting that?”
Of course, Stefan can’t stay away from the people he loves forever. Eventually, “he’ll probably make his way back to Mystic Falls,” says Plec. “Suddenly, it’ll be an interesting dynamic for Damon, who was the mysterious, evil dude who showed up in Season 1, leaving Stefan to clean up his messes. Now, it’s going to be a little bit of the reverse.”
It’ll also be a new chapter for sweethearts Stefan and Elena. Might “Ripper” be just one of many things the show will borrow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer next season? Will gone-darkside Stefan be just as cruel to Elena as Angelus was to Buffy?
“You’re going to see a very, very, very definitively different version of their relationship,” replies Plec. “Not just [in] one episode, but over a good part of the season.”
That journey is giving Paul Wesley plenty of new things to work with as Ripper Stefan. “I’ve been watching dailies. He’s really good,” raves executive producer Kevin Williamson. “He also has a swagger and a fun to the role that doesn’t exist as Stefan because he’s so the good boy. He’s so intense. He’s so broody. No one really gets to see the playful side of Paul Wesley. … As dark and as devilish and as nasty as he is [as Ripper Stefan], it makes him more fun.”
The Vampire Diaries returns to the CW with new episodes on Sept. 15.

Citation :
» Julie Plec
