There's nothing better than walking into the office and unexpectedly seeing "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 premiere episode screener sitting on your desk ... and that's exactly what happened on Friday (Sept. 20). We know you're just as excited as we are about the next chapter of The CW's fan-favorite series, so to help make these next two weeks before it officially premieres just a teeny tiny bit easier, here are 10 juicy spoilers from the dark, fun, and sexy episode that introduces a whole lot of new mythology for the new season:

1. When executive producer Julie Plec promised a lot of Delena goodness in the new season, she wasn't kidding. It seems like the two happy lovebirds haven't been able to keep their hands off each other all summer, losing hours holed up in Damon's bedroom. Though Stelena fans, don't give up all hope: there is one scene that should help to balance out the Delena-heavy episode.

2. Since Jeremy is living in the Salvatore mansion (thanks to Elena burning down the Gilbert house in Season 4), that means there is plenty of opportunities for awkward sibling moments when he accidentally catches the two vamps in the ... er, act.

3. Though Elena is heading off to Whitmore College for a normal, functioning-vampire college experience with Caroline and Bonnie (or so Elena and Caroline think), don't expect that to affect her and Damon. Sure, long-distance relationships aren't easy, but when you see how these two say goodbye, you certainly won't doubt that they can make it work.

3. Speaking of Bonnie, we've known for a while that she's still dead, and only Jeremy is able to see her. However, she's keeping up the charade that she's alive and well, traveling the world so her friends and father don't worry. But when she doesn't show up to college to be Elena and Caroline's third roommate, expect the questions to start flowing.

4. As for Bonnie's spot in Elena and Caroline's room, obviously the university filled it. This mysterious third roommate actually seems pretty cool considering the weirdo they could have been stuck with -- but Caroline has some very specific (understandable) misgivings about her.

5. Freshman year of college ... oh, the memories. Elena and Caroline dive right in to traditional college experiences, including a party. But being a vampire -- functioning or not -- in a college setting won't be as easy as they had originally thought.

6. Tyler doesn't make a physical appearance in the premiere, but prepare yourself for one of his tear-jerking voicemails to Caroline. Michael Trevino knows how to steal a scene without even being in it (he's clearly been practicing for his latest project).

7. The token human, Matt, is fresh off his summer galavanting around Europe with Rebekah and a sexy mysterious beauty named Nadia, and his three months abroad with broads transformed him into a confident, happy, self-assured guy who is not the least bit upset about returning to Mystic Falls to work (unlike most guys coming off a summer like his).

8. Speaking of Nadia, the premiere sets up new mythology that will leave you with a ton of questions as to what her agenda is, and why she needs what she takes from who she takes it from (vague enough for you?).

9. Silas doesn't waste any time pretending to be Stefan (unlike Klaus who enjoyed pretending to be Tyler for as long as he could). He's been spending his summer getting more and more powerful, and the extent of his mind control will shock and terrify you along with the entire town of Mystic Falls, while Stefan has spent the last three months in agony trapped in his underwater prison, debating whether or not to make a huge choice that will have dire consequences.

10. Katherine's had a miserable summer learning how to be a human again ... namely, running from her many enemies ("Do you have any idea what it's like to run in heels? I have blisters!") now that she's weak, slow, and vulnerable. Her troubles will only get much, much worse in the final moments of the premiere when villains' agendas start to become a tiny bit more clear.

How's that for some juicy teasers? And to give you an idea just how jam-packed the episode is, we've barely even scratched the surface of what happens in the premiere.

For Delena fans? Probably a 20. Seriously, the premiere's opening act is kind of like Delena porn. For Stelena fans? Goose egg.

The new (long-distance) couple is rock solid in the premiere, sharing the same fiery chemistry that hasn't dulled in five seasons. Also: So. Much. Kissing. One more two word tease: Bubble bath.

mary4892: Is there a moment where Stelena shippers might get a nod or a scene?
Even though Stefan and Elena are no longer together, their connection is still present in the premiere as her ex is still on her mind. And Caroline, her roomie, is definitely still Team Stelena.

Cadlymack: How effing awesome is Matt Donovan on a scale of Chad Michael Murray to Dean Winchester?
Our favorite busboy is kind of a baller! Not only did he and Rebekah (Claire Holt) have quite the scandalous European vacation over the summer, but Matt (Zach Roerig) is also a big part of an intriguing new mystery introduced in the premiere. See, humans can be interesting, too! (And yes, he's shirtless within the first few minutes. Boom.)

csi89grl: Please, please tell me that there were some Datherine scenes and that she's still her sassy, smooth-talking self?
Just because she's human doesn't mean she isn't Katherine. Come on, now! And yes, there are a few banter-filled Datherine scenes, filled with classic Damon and Katherine one-liners. And while there's definitely no love between them anymore, Damon still decides not to tell Elena about Katherine's reappearance just yet.

HerSavior_ : How is the relationship between Damon and Jeremy?
A lot of fun to watch. Clearly, Damon cares about Jeremy, but hates to show it, so the two have a brotherly dynamic. But Jeremy is kind of a mess and it's Damon's job to try to at least contain the fallout while Elena attempts to have normal college experience.

ElenaSaves89: Does it feel at all like a different show?
Kind of, but it's a good thing because just like an actual teenager, teen dramas need to evolve as well. Watching Elena and Caroline, who have both been through so much, start college together and be happy is genuinely a joy to watch. But it's even more enjoyable after they realize supernatural weirdness isn't limited to just Mystic Falls. (Bonus: A Veronica Mars-style campus mystery!)

MVP of the Episode: It's the season of Paul freaking Wesley, y'all! Wesley is clearly having a field day playing the deliciously evil Silas (who we learn actually hates vampires). And man, Silas is evil with a capital E, which makes Wesley's portrayal all the more thrilling to watch. Runner-up for MVP, however, is of course Candice Accola, as Caroline continues to just be the greatest vampire to ever vamp on TV. She brought a panini press to college! She wants to use their vampire powers for purely selfish and frivolous reasons! She and her mom have an adorable goodbye when she's dropped off at school! (Yes, Caroline and Tyler fans, you will get an update on their romance.)

The Vampire Diaries premieres Thursday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. on the CW.

I’ll get “Delena” out of the way first by confirming that everything you’ve heard about Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) is true. They had a wonderful summer together, and they’re officially boyfriend and girlfriend; they even refer to each other as such. Expect lots of skin — especially from Damon — and lots of smooth sailing for their relationship. At least on the first episode.

2. Oh, Stefan, Where Art Thou?

OK, here’s where things get interesting. I know many of you will miss Stefan — I got a lot of heat on Twitter for suggesting that you won’t — but when you see Paul Wesley in action as Silas, I think you’ll be too preoccupied by his incredible performance to pine over his “shadow self.” That said, Stefan still has plenty of screen time, both in his present-day cramped quarters and in several flashbacks that allow him to stretch his legs.

3. ‘Forwood’ Forever?

Fear not, “Forwood” fans, as Tyler (Michael Trevino) is very much a part of the season premiere. But that’s the good news. The bad news is that Caroline (Candice Accola) has a particularly emotional scene towards the end of the episode — and it might be more than just homesickness that’s bugging her.

4. Bonnie’s #GhostProblems

Being that Bonnie (Kat Graham) is virtually invisible to everyone but Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), her scenes on the premiere are understandably frustrating — especially when she goes unnoticed by her BFFs as they head off to college. It might surprise you to learn, though, that not everything Bonnie does on the first episode revolves around Jeremy. In fact, her biggest scene has nothing to do with her living flame.

5. Matt’s Surprising New Journey

Matt’s (Zach Roerig) summer with Rebekah (Claire Holt) was pretty much everything you’d expect — spoiler alert: lots of sex — but it’s what happens as a result of their summer together that will really blow your mind. Actually, it’s more likely to blow Matt‘s mind.

But, if you can believe it, that's not the biggest change in Jeremy's life this year as Steven McQueen told me when I recently visited The Vampire Diaries. Keep reading to find out how all these secrets wreak havoc on Jeremy's mental state and how the character's physical state is wreaking havoc on Steven's cookie cupboard!

ETonline: When this season picks up, where's Jeremy's head as a result of everything that happened last year?
Steven McQueen: Jeremy's lost a lot of people in his life and now he's lost, probably, the one he cared for the most. Who he even loved, I think. She sacrificed herself and at the beginning of the season, he's really feeling that burden and that weight.

ETonline: Logistically, is a Hunter still a Hunter if he's brought back from the dead?
McQueen: Yes, The Hunter's Curse is still in effect. He's strong, but not like a vampire. He's in peak human condition ... not to toot my own horn [laughs].

ETonline: We've seen a lot of shirtless Instagram photos, so how did you approach your physical preparation this season?
McQueen: Over hiatus, it was all cake and cookies and then about one month before we started filming, nothing but meat and vegetables. I wanted to look like The Rock [laughs]. The scripts say that The Hunters are in peak human condition at all times, so I just wanted to be as strong and as in shape as I could be. But damn it, I miss my cookies.

ETonline: If Jeremy is feeling guilty for Bonnie's death, how angry is he with Katherine for triggering this series of events?
McQueen: I have some scenes coming up with Katherine. I can't say what happens, but imagine things from her perspective: she's this vampire that's hundreds of years old, insanely strong, insanely fast, who can really get away with doing these sh*tty things because there were no consequences. Now we see her, at the beginning of this season, at a place of weakness: she's human, she's vulnerable and she's pissed off.

ETonline: It sounds like you have some sympathy for her...
McQueen: [sings] "Please allow me to introduce myself…" No, she killed me. Jeremy has no sympathy. He's kind of happy about it. Steven, in terms of observing a character, certainly does.

ETonline: Jeremy spent the summer keeping Bonnie's death a secret. He really struggled with internalizing his feelings at the start of the series, does this make him regress emotionally at all?
McQueen: That's a huge thing for him. I think any time you're keeping secrets from people on our show, you seclude. Even if you're there physically, mentally you're somewhere else, and I think people can relate to that. I know I really did.

ETonline: What's Jeremy's dynamic like with Damon this year?
McQueen: It's a much different dynamic this year. Elena goes off to college and my house was burned down, so I have to live somewhere -- and that's with Damon. We're stuck with each other. But through that, Damon kind of becomes this father-figure, which is something Jeremy is always looking for. Throughout all the seasons, he's always been searching for that kind of man in his life. But they still butt heads from time to time.

ETonline: Is it weird for Jeremy that his "father" is having sex with his sister?
McQueen: [laughs] I mean, of course that's very awkward for them. Especially since they're living in the same house.

ETonline: Jeremy had a very public memorial service last year -- I mean, his dead face was on flyers all over town. Does the time jump erase the need to show how he deals with that?
McQueen: No, we address it in the first episode. I have to weave my way back into society, and there's a lot of awkward moments for him. It's not like he can be like, "Kidding!"

ETonline: What are you excited for the fans to see this season?
McQueen: I'm excited for everyone to see my fight scenes, they're pretty bad ass. I love preparing for those so much. And I think you're right, Jeremy imploded about his problems in the first few seasons, but this year, you'll really see him explode.

Paul Wesley has played several reincarnations of his Vampire Diaries character, from sensitive Stefan to Ripper Stefan and various shades in between. But at the start of Season 5 (Thursday, 8/7c, The CW), Wesley takes on his biggest challenge yet by playing two characters — a physically destroyed Stefan and his immortal and manipulative doppelganger Silas.


At the end of last season, Stefan was leaving town to bury what he believed was Silas' body while also getting a fresh start away from Mystic Falls and the love of his life, Elena (Nina Dobrev), who is now dating his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder). However, his game plan suddenly went awry when Silas transformed into his "shadow self" — a doppelganger of Stefan. He then staked Stefan, locked him in a coffin and threw him to the bottom of the river.

"Stefan is really screwed up in the head when he gets out of this quarry," Wesley tells TVGuide.com in the video below. "He has had all these torturous experiences and so now doesn't react the same way as he used to and he's not as malleable. He's definitely a different man."

Before Stefan returns to Mystic Falls, Wesley will appear as Silas — except his friends and brother won't immediately know it's him. But it's not long before Damon and Jeremy (Steven McQueen) sense something is up — especially when this new "Stefan" has a completely different, aka cocky, air about him.

"Silas has so much pain and anger and hurt, but it's masked by a level of light energy and humor," Wesley says. "[He isn't] intimidated by anything and the world is his playground. He's 2000 years old and finds himself to be supremely more interesting and sophisticated. He doesn't feed on people, he thinks it's gross and primitive, so he manipulates people into cutting themselves and pouring their blood and then he drinks it; he's a little snobby."

As Stefan suffers and Silas wreaks havoc, Elena's kindred connection to Stefan will prove stronger than ever, giving her a deep sense that something is seriously wrong. "When you were in love with someone, even if they're not in your life you have that connection with them; the love is still there whether it's romantic or not." Dobrev says. "When she finds out what he's been through it's not easy for her."

Ultimately, Elena, Damon & Co. will realize that who they think is Stefan is actually Silas, while at the same time Stefan will eventually emerge from his perpetually drowning state. As these two versions continue to co-exist, Wesley will play the two roles until the season's Big Bad is defeated — unless he isn't. As fans may remember, the last epic villain, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), was originally supposed to die in Season 2. When he became a fan favorite, his character remained on the series and ultimately landing a spin-off. What happens if Wesley receives the same adoration during his time as Silas? Executive producer Julie Plec tells us there's always a back-up plan.

"Klaus is a perfect example because thank God the happy ending to that story is a spin-off," Plec says. "We didn't want to kill him because we liked him so much, but he was on the precipice of becoming a story vacuum if we weren't careful. Silas is the same thing. He is a villain and at some point the bad guy needs to be dealt with and vanquished, no matter how good they are. So we'll see. We definitely have plans to vanquish him, but we have an open mind to keep him around, it depends on the success of the storyline and the actor in both roles and, frankly, if there's more story to tell."

What does Wesley think about that prospect?

"I think what the fans like and what the fans react to is making Stefan dynamic," he says. "He's the hero and everyone wants to see the hero's journey and his fall and his great redemption and I think that's what it's all about. So if they can make Stefan dynamic continually then I don't know if Silas is necessary for the entire length of the show."

While Damon's life has never looked brighter (he got the girl and spent a whole summer in bed with her), a darkness is coming and Ian Somerhalder, for one, can not wait! What that means for Damon's relationship with Elena remains to be seen, but when The Vampire Diaries season five starts, the two are crazy in love and looking forward to an eternity together.

Turns out, figuring out how to play Damon in that headspace presented an unexpectedly large challenge for Somerhalder, who couldn't stop gushing about season five's tonal shift when I hit up the set last month!

ETonline: The premiere picks up a few months later, where do we find Damon?
Ian Somerhalder: In love and giddy and happy for the first time in, probably, a really long time. Nina [Dobrev] and I always joke about this, but despite the fact I'm 173 and she's 18, they're genuinely happy and it's cute to see their dynamic. To see Damon as this guy in love is adorable.

ETonline: When was the last time he was this happy?
Somerhalder: In the 1860s with Katherine. Even if he was with women throughout his life, which there were many of [laughs], it wasn't that real thing. And the whole thing with Katherine was about the naivete of a 23-year-old boy. When you're 23, you feel like a boy. Hell, I'm 33 and I still feel like a boy. But I think it's still gotta be weird being with this woman who is the carbon copy of the woman who broke your heart; just a sweeter, even more beautiful version because she's so pure.

ETonline: When I talked to Caroline Dries she said that figuring out how to write Damon as a character in love was unexpectedly tough. Was it tough for you from a performance perspective?
Somerhalder: No because it was in the writing. They wrote really great stuff, that's the difference. The thing about this season is, the show has done very well, but I've been incredibly outspoken about the fact Damon changed significantly after season one and it sent me down a wormhole. It wasn't the character I signed on to play. But Kevin Williamson had to beat it into my thick skull that I can't be a one-trick pony for six years. This is a 100-plus episode journey for this man and he had a point. But season one encapsulated everything that is Vampire Diaries; that's what hooked people in. We're a dark, night, vampire show; we're not a day exterior show. This year, we're really getting back to that and everything is just working in a really amazing way as we bring back the elements of season one that really inspired us. I have a really rejuvenated feeling about this season.

ETonline: Historically Damon is a major self-sabotager. Will he torpedo his relationship with Elena?
Somerhalder: I don't think he's going to ultimately find a way to f*ck it up. Things change, it's life and ... the parallels of how art imitates life this season are pretty staggering. Especially when you have a team of writers who know you so well. I'm starting to see my life surface in the art and I'm starting to see the art surfacing in my life. It's a very interesting dichotomy actors live but they're supposed to be intertwined. Art should imitate life and life should imitate art.

ETonline: Looking at this season, what are you excited for the fans to experience?
Somerhalder: The return of that feeling we all loved about season one. The feeling that initially sucked them in and allowed these stories to resonate. The scripts are coming in huge, the actors are pushing each other to make sure the scenes are the best they can be without compromising and it's darker; and our show is supposed to be dark and we're really taking it there this year.

>> I’ve seen the premiere, and Caroline has a few really emotional scenes, especially with her mom.

Yeah, that’s definitely a sweet moment. It’s a proud moment.

>> When she drops Caroline off at school, did you feel like you were saying goodbye to your mom?

Personally, because she’s working as a writer on The Originals, I was more excited and happy and thrilled for her. There was a lot of sentiment there than just the idea that our characters won’t be together for a while. It was a genuine moment.

>> Well, that’s pretty awesome.

And a couple weeks after that moment, my family and I brought my little brother to college. We got him unpacked, watched him meet his roommate and got his dorm ready. Then we had to give the hug goodbye, and I was like, ‘Oh my God! It’s just like on the show!’ It was really funny.

>> There’s also some Tyler stuff in the premiere. When will he and Caroline finally get to see each other again?

I don’t know, but I hope it’s soon! We will see Tyler at some point as the series goes on, and the viewers are just going to have to watch and see when that happens. I have a feeling that Caroline is going to be really really happy, or really really mad.

>> Speaking of not seeing people, is it awkward filming with Kat Graham, but not acknowledging she’s there?

It is what it is. There’s a lot of things we’re ignoring on a TV set, anyway. We’ve got a giant fuzzy boom microphone inches from our faces, and we’re having to act, and we’ve got an entire globe of light surrounding you. Someone’s eating a sandwich. There’s a lot of things to ignore when you’re on a set. So having someone in the scene and having to ignore them isn’t that different, actually. … Fortunately, when they yell ‘cut,’ we all get to talk. Unless [Kat Graham] went all method and was like, ‘Guys, no. You can’t talk to me.’ That would be awkward.

>> When will the girls finally find out that Bonnie is dead?

They’re not going to find out right away, and it’s going to be hard when they do.

>> OK, let’s talk about the new people. What’s this Jesse guy all about?

Ah, yes. We’re going to meet Jesse; he’s a good looking member of the opposite sex, who happens to take a liking to Caroline. But Caroline’s not very interested. She’s still focused on being with Tyler.

>> She’s loyal, I like that. … She’s also loyal to Elena. How will she help her best friend through all her boy drama this season?

Caroline’s going to be there in the only fashion she knows how, which is with open arms and very strong opinions.

>> I know Stefan’s at the bottom of a lake, but when he comes back, do you think Caroline will still want him with Elena?

Oh, yes. Caroline is very much still Team Stefan.

>> Besides your own, which character’s storyline are you most excited about?

The viewers will have to wait for it a little bit, but I’m really excited for Damon’s storyline. As the season goes on, you’re going to learn more about his history as a vampire, which is going to connect a lot of dots together. I’m really excited about that.

>> Will it change the way we think of Damon?

I think it’s just a curve ball, a really great story. You’re going to be like, ‘Oh my God. How are they going to play this out? I had no idea. This explains so much!’

>> Last question: When is Caroline going to book a flight to New Orleans to visit ‘The Originals’?

The writers definitely left that storyline open as season four came to a close. There’s not been any immediate talk of Caroline visiting New Orleans, but you really never know.

L'acteur poursuit : "Cela établit une nouvelle variable qui pourrait faire bouger les choses et peut-être conduire à une nouvelle romance étrange."

Nina Dobrev avait elle-même confié au site TV Guide qu'Elena allait "souffrir terriblement" pour Stefan. A suivre !

‘Tessa knows all,’ Janina tells us of her character, who first appears on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ this week.

Brace for impact, Vampire Diaries fans, because Mystic Falls is about to be hit with some huge bombshells. Janina Gavankar joins the series Oct. 18 as a mysterious woman named Tessa, and she tells HollywoodLife.com she “can’t believe” she gets to be the one to reveal so much about the Salvatores — including a “disturbing” message about Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) future, and a few game-changing surprises about Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) past.

“She has a bad side you don’t want to get on,” Janina says of her shady character, who also has “about 18 pages of monologues” which reveal huge secrets about both Salvatore brothers. ”She kind of busts in and says, ‘You think you know, but you have no idea.’”

>> So, we know almost nothing about Tessa, except that she ‘thwarts’ Damon & Elena’s plan to save Stefan.

Ah, yes, excellent use of ‘thwarts.’ We first meet her on episode three, which is called ‘Original Sin.’ It’s a flashback episode, so you will learn a lot. Tessa singlehandedly tells you a lot of information. She’s part of Stefan’s past, and she’s about to bring the truth.

>> How far back does Tessa go with Stefan?

As far back as he does. … You’ll understand exactly what that means after the episode airs.

>> Will what we learn change the way we look at Stefan?

Yes, definitely.

>> Since flashbacks are involved, did you get to have some fun with ridiculous wigs and costumes?

I went through more make-up and hair tests on this show than I have, cumulatively, in my entire career [which includes shows like Arrow and True Blood]. It was a lot, but I’m really glad we did it, because I think we arrived at something that makes a lot of sense. We put a lot of time and thought into the way she looks, what she wears and where she comes from.

>> OK, now let’s talk about Damon. I understand Tessa reveals something bad about his future?

Oh, I do, that’s right! I can’t tell you exactly what she tells him, but Tessa knows all. She’s about to drop a bomb [on Damon and Stefan], whether they want to hear it or not, which they don’t. Most people don’t want to know what she knows, but she’s about to make them face the truth. She’s like, ‘Listen, sit down, because I’m about to handle things the way that I need to.’

>> What was it like walking onto the set of a show in its fifth season?

Well, I actually had a funny moment with Steven McQueen. The second I landed in Atlanta, I was like, ‘Someone, hand me all the DVDs right now!’ So I was in my dressing room, opposite Steven’s, and he came out of his room to say hi. I honestly didn’t recognize him because, on my screen in my dressing room, was a little baby emo child — and out of his room came this strapping man. I was like, ‘Nice to meet you. Who do you play?’ Meanwhile, there was a freeze frame of him on my TV screen.

>> Wow, that’s super-awkward. What about Nina? Did you get to work with her, too?

I did, and let me tell you, Nina Dobrev is working her butt off. She’s got such crazy hours, people don’t even know. By the end of my run on the show, she was doing things she’s never done before on the show, and I’m really happy that I got to be a part of it and see her do them. We had a lot of fun. … Oh, and not only is this girl doing these insane hours, but she still manages to look totally fly. … She’s fantastic. She loves her show, and she’s proud of her show.

>> Anything else we should know about Tessa?
