A Lire : The Walking Dead saison 4 : Andrea pourrait revenir en fantôme

Dispatches From the Set - Grace Walker (Production Designer)
Spoilers Saison 4 The Walking Dead TWD-S3-Cell-Block-Set-560
[color][font][color][font][url][/url]
The Walking Dead's production designer Grace Walker talks about cleaning up the prison for Season 4 and the secret to making it look like the world has ended.
Q: What projects have you been working on for the new season?
A: We're trying to form better conditions for the survivors at the prison. We figured because we had a lot more people coming in -- like the people coming from Woodbury -- that the cellblocks were starting to overflow, so we made more room for them. We had to have better shelter, and conditions where they can now eat outside.
Q: Last season, which episodes were more difficult for you: those that took place at Woodbury or the prison?
A: I think we learned a lot with the Woodbury stuff. We only used to have, like, three hours to get it set up. We'd get in there early in the morning and put up our big barriers and the walls and get everything all ready in the main street area. We'd go like crazy and then we'd shoot for a day, and then we'd have to pull it all down again. And if we went back the next day, we'd have to do it all over again. The exteriors were kind of easy, and we were fortunate enough to have a couple buildings within the town where we'd build out a set, as well.
Q: What are some tricks you've learned on the show that have made set construction easier?
A: With the prison, the interiors have worked really well, as we go into them time and time again. We've got it down now where we can remove walls from the cells a lot faster than when we did the first episode there. The main block has 18 cells; nine below and nine above. And we can shoot in any of those cells and take out all the walls, including the rear walls on the second floor as well. We've got mobile towers that we quickly put in. We're just completing a new cellblock for this season, and it's looking almost better than the others. But like everything, we're not quite ready -- there's always a moment when we're nervous and trying to get things done. But we always do, and it looks great!
Q: Are there any sets you dreamed up that never ended up getting built?

A: There was a very big shower set that we were going to build for the prison. And that never came off. But that doesn't happen that often; because of the time we have, we don't have time to shift things around.
Q: The band of survivors on the show has learned to be very resourceful in the aftermath of the apocalypse; has any of that rubbed off on the crew?
A: What we do a lot is take sets we have and then use them someplace else. The cafeteria that we used last year we then turned into the prison laundry. And then it was turned into the prison generator room. We basically used the same vantage, but changed it around a bit with different colors and different dressings, and voila. We have a new set this year that you'd never know was the old one.
VIDEO: Gearing Up for Season 4: Inside The Walking Dead
Q: What's the secret for making something look post-apocalyptic?
A: Something that's got a good age and is getting older. Things getting overgrown, weeds are growing, vines are crawling on things; the paint is fading, cracking, peeling off. The concrete's falling away. It's a challenge, but we work with great painters.[/font][/color][/font][/color]

Spoilers Saison 4 The Walking Dead Andrew-lincoln-walking-deadIf there were an Emmy category for rawness, Andrew Lincolnwouldn’t just be under consideration for a nomination, he’d be the frontrunner for the win. The work the actor did on AMC’sThe Walking Dead this past season as grieving Sheriff Rick Grimes felt so real that, at times, it was difficult to watch. (He didn’t even watch himself!) Here, the 39-year-old Englishman opens up about how he approached his widowed character’s breakdown and whether he thinks Emmy voters will be able to overcome their genre bias to give him and his hit cable series a chance.
RELATED | Walking Dead‘s Andrew Lincoln on New Romance for Rick: ‘[Spoiler] Would Be Deeply Upset’
TVLINE | It was such an intense season for you. How did you recover and wind down after playing all of that rage and desolation?
It is a brutal and dark place you have to inhabit, but I’m very good at disengaging. And there’s no better way to unplug than having children. Changing diapers is one of the most leveling things that has ever happened to me. Realizing that my children are the center of the universe and not me is probably one of the greatest ways to acclimatize.

Spoilers Saison 4 The Walking Dead WdTVLINE | Your former leading lady, Sarah Wayne Callies [who plays Lori, his TV wife], told me last fall, “When Andrew goes down the rabbit hole, he goes all the way down.” What did she mean exactly?
I love acting. I just love it. It’s in my bones. I remember when I was a kid, I watched an interview with Dennis Hopper talking about Jimmy Dean on the set of Rebel Without a Cause. Jimmy said to him, “If you’ve got to cry in a scene, you’ve got to cry. Make it real.” And that’s all that I believe in.

RELATED | Walking Dead Season 4 Casting News: Wire Alum to Play [Spoiler]
TVLINE | Sarah also mentioned that you didn’t want her on the set the day you shot the big scene where Rick learns Lori died. Why?
Because she [had already been killed off]. A lot of it is about feeling relaxed enough to make mistakes, or to look like a fool, or to dare to go to a place that I wouldn’t necessarily go to. Maybe I was a bit self-conscious with Sarah being there and not wanting to turn that scene into a spectator’s sport. I admire her so much as an actress, and I was so upset about losing her as [a costar] that I just wanted to do it justice — do herjustice.

TVLINE | How did you gear up mentally for that scene?
I just took myself away for a couple of hours while they were setting up and listened to a song and got into a place that wasn’t very happy.

TVLINE | What song were you listening to?
It was Snow Patrol and Martha Wainwright’s “Set the Fire to the Third Bar.” Don’t listen to it. You might end up collapsing. [Laughs]

PHOTOS | The Walking Dead: 15 Most Memorable Moments of Season 3
Spoilers Saison 4 The Walking Dead Walking-dead-carl-rick-chandler-riggs-andrew-lincoln-season-3-finale-amcTVLINE | Your TV son Chandler Riggs [Carl] played a big role in that scene. He essentially telegraphs the news to Rick about Lori’s death. What was it like playing a scene like that with, essentially, a child?
Chandler Riggs is just the most intuitive, wise boy; he’s a wonderful actor. And as a father, as a human being, you just see that. [Rick getting] confirmation from [Carl that Lori died] broke me. I spoke to the director and said, “I think it’s vital that this guy that’s been so stoic and the linchpin of this group needs to drop his gun. And you need to see him fall to the ground. I think you need to see him taken down by this news.” This is a man whose instincts to survive have been driven primarily by two people — and one of those people is dead. It’s like taking his balance away.

TVLINE | Why do you think the Emmys have been slow to embrace the show?
I don’t really think about it too much, in all honesty. It was [former exec producer] Frank [Darabont] and everybody at AMC’s intention to elevate the genre. As soon as I mention the word “genre,” people make an [assumption], don’t they? It never occurred to me that this would be a genre show. I think this is a family drama set in Hell. That’s what I see it as. It just so happens that there are zombies. I absolutely understand that this isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but all I would urge people to do is give it a chance. There’s some incredibly bold storytelling.

TVLINE | Should you find yourself with a nomination, is there an episode you are personally proud of?
You’d have to tell me. I don’t actually watch the show.

TVLINE | Really? You didn’t even watch your big breakdown scene?
No. I kind of know what happened — I was sort of in it. [Laughs] I kind of thought, you know, when I was on my knees wailing, “Well, I left everything on the ballpark here.”

Dispatches From the Set - Greg Nicotero (Executive Producer and Special FX Makeup Designer)
Spoilers Saison 4 The Walking Dead TWD-S4-Greg-Nicotero-Dispatch-560

Greg Nicotero, the Executive Producer and Special FX Makeup Designer for AMC's The Walking Dead, talks about new zombie tricks for Season 4 and bowling with Norman Reedus during the off-season.
Q: You directed the Season 4 Premiere episode. What is it like to be back?
A: What's nice about the first episode is that they always supersize it and give you an extra day, because they know that the script is going to be insanely filled with great drama and great action, and we certainly didn't skimp on anything in this one.
Q: Sounds like there's a lot going on in Season 4...
A: The story arcs and the script this season are astoundingly detailed, and every single nuance is there for a reason. It's really fascinating when you step back as a director and you deconstruct a script in your head. When you're shooting this scene because, for example, Hershel says one word, then the next cut has to feature what he's saying, that intent follows through.
Q: The weather has been really rainy in the South. How has that affected shooting?
A: As a matter of fact, one of the locations that I picked for the first episode, our first day of shooting, the place was underwater. So we literally had to scramble and pick a new location... They had Porta-Potties and all this stuff set up for where the crew was going to be, and I guess they floated away. [Laughs]
Q: What are the challenges of directing the Premiere?

A: For me, it's really about putting the ship on the right course in regards to getting all the actors to know where their characters are and giving them insight into what's coming down the pipe...
VIDEO: Gearing Up for Season 4: Inside The Walking Dead
Q: What's been your favorite episode to direct thus far?
A: Each episode I love for a different reason. The first episode I did in Season 2, where Dale gets killed, is the first piece of television I had directed. And I don't think I told anyone else except Andy Lincoln, but I was scared s---less because I had one walker and this gigantic, huge, emotional episode... And then the second episode I did, 305, was so action-oriented. It was like four episodes in one because we had Rick going insane after Lori dies, then we had Michonne and Andrea's story, and then we had Merle, and then we had the arena fights, and then we had the walker pits. 305 was really, really exhausting.
Q: Do you still get nervous directing?
A: I thought I was very prepared [this year]. I storyboarded a bunch of sequences, and I had a great prep with my director of photography, and we went over the script over and over again... So I wasn't nervous until the first morning, and we were all setting up the first scene, and I looked around and thought, "Okay, now I'm nervous."
Q: When you hang out with the cast off-season, what do you for fun?
A: I went to New York and my family went with me, and we ended up spending half the time with Norman Reedus and going bowling and we went to the Empire State Building. Norman had never been the Empire State Building, and they took us up to the wee, wee top where there's like eight feet above you and the rest is just terror.
Q: What new tricks do you have in store for the walkers this year?
A: In the first episode this season, one of the guys in my crew was like, "You did every gag that you ever did in three years of The Walking Dead in one episode." We had walkers. We had mummified corpses. We had puppets. We had zombie bites... There was even a couple of gags that we came up with on the fly -- there was a couple of sculptures that my guys in Los Angeles had done and I said, "Oh yeah, that's a great walker." Where people are like, "What are the iconic walkers for season four going to be?" I'm like, "Well, you'll just have to see!"
Q: Did you have a favorite zombie gag from Season 3?
A: I've got to say the burned walkers in Episode 14... where Bowman comes back after Milton burns the pit. What I really wanted when we shot that sequence was to make it look like there were 15 walkers that had just melted together into one writhing mass of burnt flesh... It really made me proud.

The Walking Dead - Season 4 Premiere - Title revelead

According to sources, Episode 401 — penned by new showrunner Scott M. Gimple — currently bears the title, “30 Days Without an Accident.”

What does it mean?! Herewith are some possible interpretations (some obvious, some less so):

* The show will skip ahead at least one month following the events of the Season 3 finale.
* Rick’s controversial decision to relocate the denizens of Woodbury to the prison is paying off on the safety front (i.e. 30 days without a zombie attack). It’s also creating a potentially deadly false sense of security.
* Rick’s screws are starting to tighten (i.e. 30 days without seeing dead people).
* The gang stumbles on a potential new home base, where the current residents are tracking the number of days since the last attack on a chalk board.

Question: Is there any chance there will be flashbacks showing the Governor’s origin story on The Walking Dead? And if so, might Milton make an appearance? I’m really heartbroken over his death. — Jessenika
Ausiello: The Governor’s origin story, which I imagine would have to include his former ally Milt, seems like a golden story opportunity for new showrunner Scott Gimple — especially since David Morrissey is back as a regular in Season 4. But I honestly have no idea if it’s in the cards. The show could just as easily wind up being too busy with new recurring characters like Laura, a single mom and ex-nurse who isn’t quite as strong as she first appears; Melody, a “just one of the guys” kinda gal in her 20s; and Don, who sounds like Hershel, if Hershel were crankier and two-legged. (BTW, did you see this?)

Spoilers Saison 4 The Walking Dead The-walking-dead-saison-4-andrea-la-productrice

The Hollywood Reporter: If Frank Darabont's run was described as nuanced and Mazzara's was fast-paced, how will Gimple's tenure be described?
Robert Kirkman:
It's a much more character-based story. It's going to be more focused on who these characters are and what they're going through. To a certain extent, we got away from that a little bit in season three. Coming into season four, we're definitely going to know a lot more about these people so it will be that much more gut-wrenching and worse when we lose these characters.

THR: How is the show different under Gimple's leadership?
Kirkman:
More than any other showrunner, Scott actually read the comics regularly and was a huge fan before show existed and watched the first season and was a fan before he was brought on as a writer in season two. He absolutely loves the material. We are definitely going in some new directions and this will continue to be a different take on the material form the comics but there will possibly be some scenes that are a little bit closer to the comic than we've done in the past. Season four probably has the most number of scenes that are adapted directly from the comic series or very close to what we did. A good deal of that is from Scott and the way he views that material and puts forth that extra effort to work it into the show in a way that it all works.

THR: When does season four pick up? What kind of a time jump will there be?
Kirkman:
There's going to be a bit of a time jump. Some time has passed between season three and season four. It's only a few months, we're not nailing down the exact number of days or anything like that. The prison that we see is a very different prison and the characters that we see are very different from the last time we saw them. We go into season four with characters you've known for four years and still find new things to explore with them and new aspects of their character and see that they are growing and changing in extremely dramatic ways due to the strains that this world has put upon them.

Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus
When The Walking Dead returns this fall, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) & Co. will still be residing in the prison — but that doesn't mean we're in for a lull while the group learns how to be a community again. After all, there's still the ever-present danger of The Governor (David Morrissey), who abandoned Woodbury and left his former residents to be taken in by Rick. But how is Rick dealing in a world where nearly everyone he's gotten close to has died and his son is on a precarious path to becoming a monster? TVGuide.com turned to executive producer and comic book creator Robert Kirkman and new showrunner Scott Gimple to get the scoop on the new season and which elements of the comics will be introduced this year.

Comic-Con 2013: 'The Walking Dead' Season 4 spoilers, world premiere video

By Mike Rougeau July 19, 2013 5:40 PM ET

AMC brought "The Walking Dead" once again to San Diego Comic-Con 2013, and zombie fans packed the cavernous Hall H on Friday to greet the show's producers and cast.

The "Walking Dead" panel featured Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Steven Yeun (Glenn Rhee), Lauren Cohan (Maggie Green), Danai Gurira (Michonne), David Morrissey (The Governor), Scott Wilson (Hershel Greene), and Chad Coleman (Tyreese). But Executive Producer and showrunner Scott Gimple, creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman, and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert Greg Nicotero took the stage first.

[Note: "The Walking Dead" spoilers follow.]

"Things are definitely going to get way crazier," Kirkman says of the upcoming Season 4. "It's an escalation. The world is getting worse."

"It's going to get insane very quickly," says Gimple.

"There's stuff that we shot in the last two weeks that is above and beyond," says Nicotero, who also serves as special effects and makeup supervisor. "24 hours ago we shot one of the coolest walker gags ever."

In the world premiere of new footage from the show, Michonne, Daryl, Glenn, Tyreese, and a squad of other familiar and unfamiliar characters infiltrate a supermarket to gather supplies. Disaster strikes off-screen, and elsewhere walkers swarm the fences surrounding the prison. There are walkers and foes inside the prison as well, and it seems the group's home isn't as secure as they'd like it to be. Rick takes on the role of detective as he attempts to thwart his enemies inside the walls, and new characters try to prove themselves. By the end of the trailer, the group seems to be searching for a new home, and a mysterious voice is heard over a radio uttering a single word: "survive." It looks bloody and gruesome and tense, perfect for "The Walking Dead" fans.

The cast entered the hall following the trailer, fan favorite Reedus earning the wildest applause. Moderator Chris Hardwick went down the line and asked each actor a pointed question, starting with one for Lincoln: why did Rick take the group go back to the prison at the end of the third season instead of moving to the town Woodbury? Lincoln said that will be answered in the upcoming season, and addressed a question about his character's son, Carl, instead.

"I think that the relationship with Carl is integral to the beginning of this season," Lincoln says. "And him turning into a sociopath by the end of this season definitely woke [Rick] up to his parenting duties." He adds that Rick in Season 4 is practically a brand new character.

Gurira says her character is finally opening up to her new family, though the physical aspects of shooting the show -- her character Michonne wields a samurai blade -- never get easier. "I had never ridden a horse before," she says. "You've got to move with it, so no, you don't get comfortable."

"I love Glenn because he's constantly evolving," Yeun says of his character. Glenn had a tough time last season when his love interest, Maggie, was assaulted by the villainous Governor. "I think that was a really great arc to play," he explains.

"I think that Maggie wanted to move on a little faster," Cohan adds. "I think that Maggie and Glenn have had a chance to let [this world] test their relationship and I think when we see them this season we're going to see that it's something that strengthens them."

Next came Wilson, whose character lost a leg last season. "I think he really just wants to hold onto his other leg," he says of his character being the moral compass.

Coleman, who plays another fan favorite in Tyreese, says his character is still trying to find his place in the world. "I sense that he really needs a strong reasoning behind why he does what he does, but this world just won't let him operate that way," he says. "No one goes unscathed, and eventually, you know, a can of whoop-ass might get opened."

Fans might hope that that can gets opened all over The Governor, a character whose morals seem to have dried up and died by the end of Season 3. "At the end of last season he was in a very dark place and he sort of did some bad things," Morrissey says of his character.

In the upcoming season "all bets are off" when it comes to the show's villain, The Governor, Kirkman says. Fans were unsure whether the villain would make it through the end of Season 3, and Kirkman says his return will be a huge mystery during the upcoming season.

Last came Reedus, again eliciting hollers from the crowd. [SPOILER] Hardwick asked him about the death of his character's brother, Merle. "[Daryl] was sort of doomed to become mini Merle, and I wanted to play him like he's embarrassed that he's racist and that he takes drugs and stuff," he says. "Without Merle around he can sort of find this sense of self worth that he never would have found if this apocalypse hadn't happened."

The conversation turned to the upcoming season. "When we meet them all in Season 4 there is a whole new community in the prison," Lincoln says. He adds that fans should expect a lot of tension from the influx of new personalities.

Judging by what was shown in the Season 4 trailer, the feel-good vibe from the Season 3 finale won't last long. But does that mean there's no hope? "The hope is in Beth singing," Gurira says about the future of "The Walking Dead"'s world. "The hope is in Carl."

"The Walking Dead" Season 4 premieres October 13.

'The Walking Dead': Andrew Lincoln says Rick will be 'in a completely different place' in season 4

There’s no doubt that Rick Grimes went a bit cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs after his wife Lori died during childbirth on The Walking Dead. Next thing you knew he was off seeing ghosts and avoiding his baby Judith as much as possible. But while Rick was not winning any father of the year awards last season, the man who plays him, Andrew Lincoln, says that parenting will come back into focus in season 4 — especially after son Carl went and killed a surrendering Woodbury teen named Jody in the season finale. “Certainly after the death of Lori, I think that a lot was brought into question, certainly in that last episode,” Lincoln said in the video interview below while taking a break from posing for the new cover of Entertainment Weekly. “And Andrea helped that sort of narrow his focus much more on his son, who is obviously in a very, very disturbed state toward the end of last season. And I think he has to take responsibility for that.”But while Rick may strive to be a better father in season 4, those damn zombies and other nutjobs like the Governor keep seeming to get in the way. “You find him in a completely different place,” says Lincoln of Rick’s role. “And I do think that the struggle within him is still there, which is whether or not he should be a leader at the expense of being a father figure.”

Ausiello: Well, I can tell you that he’ll have a major presence in at least two Season 4 episodes, both of which are being unofficially billed as ”standalone Governor” installments. No specific intel on when those episodes will air, but I hear they’ll likely fall in the first chunk of eight (premiering Sunday, Oct. 13).

I’m so excited for this next season of The Walking Dead — the trailer looks so good! But I’m starting to get scared for the lives of the prisoners. Is there any word of another major character getting killed off? I don’t know who I’d spare first. Maybe Carl… –Rebecca

But… Carl just scored a glossy magazine cover! That’d be just cruel. While I can’t say if we’re due for another major death anytime soon, it’s looking like there will be warm bodies to fill any gaps. For midseason, the show is casting the recurring roles of John Tyler, a rough-around-the-edges and vulgar man with a propensity towards violence; Wayne Kesey, a gent in the 30s/40s whose book smarts are his main tools in survival; and Jordana Barraza, a Latina with a shameful past but a desire to learn right from others.
