Question: Do you please please have some scoop on Bamon/Stelena or Klaroline from The Vampire Diaries? —Lisa Ausiello: Eeny, meeny, miny… Bamon! While the two will always get on each other’s nerves, this Thursday’s episode features a lovely — albeit fleeting — moment between Bonnie and Damon that suggests they may not hate each other as much as they claim to.
Question: Any scoop on Vampire Diaries? Preferably Caroline related? — Melissa Ausiello: Like most episodes, this week’s TVD will be an emotional roller coaster for Ms. Forbes, who begins the episode in her dorm room with Stefan… and in nothing but a towel! What happens next will send Caroline on a day-long journey that ends with her literally gasping for air.

Postmortem: The Vampire Diaries Boss Breaks Down That Final Scene
The Vampire Diaries staged an epic homecoming on Thursday, and in more ways than one.
"The World Has Turned and Left Me Here" turned out to be quite the bloody affair. But while Tyler (Michael Trevino) accidentally caused a deadly turn of events at the Whitmore College event, over in the '90s, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) finally achieved some success with their own planned homecoming as the trapped Salvatore finally escaped — sadly, without Bonnie by his side. How will Damon's return affect Elena (Nina Dobrev), who's had her memories of their love erased? Will he snap Stefan (Paul Wesley) out of his funk? Does Bonnie still have a chance at her own return? Executive producerCaroline Dries answers all of those burning questions and more! How did you decide on how long Damon would be gone? Caroline Dries: We wanted it to feel like we were committed to this idea that he was yanked out of existence. We thought, what's the character story we can tell? His emotional journey was, "I must get home to be with Elena and reunite with my brother," but really what he was going through is, "I'm enemies with Bonnie." Through this whole situation with Kai (Chris Wood) where they need him but hate him, Damon starts to form this bond with Bonnie, so we felt like once that arc was complete, then OK, that story is over for Damon, it's time to move on for his next chapter. It worked out perfectly with what we were trying to do with Elena which was jumpstart her new journey post-relationship with Damon. The last scene for Bonnie and Damon, which mirrored the Season 5 finale, seemed to signify that the story was coming full circle. Dries: It felt like we had earned this because the characters have known each other for five seasons on the show and have had this rocky relationship, so when we threw them together it was perfect because you don't want somebody to be trapped in a prison world with their best friend.
What are the immediate implications for Elena, who no longer remembers that she and Damon were in love? Dries: She's going to experience a lot of expectations riding on the moment of Damon and Elena coming face-to-face once again. Can their love break through the compulsion? Will she look at him and fall back in love because it's him? Will she run for the hills? There are a lot of questions we're building to, so we're going to try to milk that moment and make it as big of a deal as we've been leading up to. It's a test [of] their relationship as a couple and it's a huge hurdle they'll have to overcome. Is it possible to start fresh? Or will she just remember him as the guy who killed her brother? To me it adds a huge layer of conflict without it feeling contrived, because he really did all of those things. So it's her giving herself a reality check at this time in her life when she's doing well in school and she has this cool guy Liam (Marco James). She's trying to weigh her options and it becomes this eternal struggle of, "Which road do I take?"
Will Damon realize that it might've been easier to remain stuck in another decade than to come home? Dries: In hindsight he'll make that comment, and it is that way. He had all the hopes and dreams of reuniting with Elena and he comes back to realize the Traveler spell is still in effect, the love of his life has forgotten she ever loved him, Stefan is off living some other weird life — it's not the homecoming he was expecting.
How does Damon's return affect Stefan? Dries: We really tried to get Stefan to his lowest point right before Damon came back and so it's not going to be immediate — nothing with Stefan is a swooping shift in his personality — so he's going to be thrilled Damon is back but there's still a lot he needs to clean up. He made a bit of a mess in his life after Damon left and it'll be picking up the pieces. He made an enemy of Enzo (Michael Malarkey), he ruined his friendship with Caroline (Candice Accola), so having Damon back is just one piece of the puzzle in his life, but he's got a lot of other sh-t to deal with.
Will there be a friendship triangle between Alaric, Damon and Enzo? Dries: It's funny, we have so many boys on the show and we're trying to make it so they're not competing with each other for Damon's attention. Enzo is more of a villain and that's more an overarching season dynamic we'll play between him and Stefan and Damon, whereas with Alaric (Matt Davis) they'll immediately be feeling out what their relationship is now that Alaric compelled away Elena's memories of Damon. What you can say about Bonnie now that she's been left behind? Dries: Damon believes she was left for dead, so he's struggling with the guilt of having gotten out when she sacrificed herself for him. With Bonnie left behind with Kai we'll see basically a horror movie for her and she's desperately trying to find a way out without letting Kai back. It's this endless bad dream for her.
How much will everyone else learn about what happened during Damon's time away? Dries: When he comes back he has the opportunity to tell them exactly what happened or lie and cover up the truth in order to protect people's feelings. He chooses the latter, hoping that's the right choice to make and that everyone will be able to accept it better without having to go through the whole death of Bonnie again. You'll see how they start to become aware [that] Bonnie actually is alive, and their mission is to get to her. Caroline was clear about her feelings for Stefan. Will their relationship finally pick up? Dries: It will pick up slowly but surely, but she is really hurt, especially after he dumped Ivy in her life. It was the icing on the cake of ruining their friendship in her mind. But Caroline is going to be going through some stuff that in her mind will allow Stefan to come back into her life. Their relationship will continue to be friends, but now that Caroline has these deep feelings, every time they're in a scene together it still feels charged — so we'll continue to play their friendship-romance situation hoping some good juice will come out of it. There was a scene where Liam and the girl Elena saved gave each other a look. How should we read into that? Dries: Liam is a super ambitious, kind of cocky med student and the notion that Elena could have saved somebody that was supposed to die really affects him not because he's so egotistical, but because he's scientific. It's going to gnaw at him and it'll become a sticking point in their relationship.
What can you say about Tyler and Liv (Penelope Miller)? Dries: My favorite love story of the season is the one we're playing in the background with the Tyler and Liv situation. What she does by killing the kid so it doesn't trigger the werewolf gene is a pretty big sacrifice. She's so hot and cold, so it'll be fun to show more of her past and for us to understand why she acts the way she does toward the boys she likes, and we start to link her to the bigger mythology of the season.
Although we didn't see Sarah in this episode, we know she's a Salvatore. Will she tell anyone? Dries: As she starts digging it gets the attention of Enzo, and once she engages him she becomes this time bomb of information.
And how will the dynamic between Tripp (Colin Ferguson) and Matt (Zach Roerig) change now that we know he's a vampire hunter? Dries: Tripp will start to reveal himself as more of a mentor figure to Matt and test Matt's allegiances and make him question what he believes. Is it OK to be friends with vampires even if they kill people? Or do you have to draw the line even though these are [your] friends? So he makes Matt ask all of those questions and of course it doesn't end well for anyone.
Are you excited Damon's back? Share your thoughts on the big episode in the comments!
The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.

In the episode, Bonnie (Kat Graham), Caroline (Candice Accola) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) return to their high school days in a flashback set in the show's first season in 2009. The scene will feature a big holiday gathering, and since we were on hand for the filming, we can promise an impressively festive set. Unfortunately, it's too soon to tell whether the girls are looking back on happier times or if Caroline and Elena are reminiscing about their long-gone best friend. But, if history has shown, the most joyful of Vampire Diaries events tend to end in a bloody massacre. (RIP Mayor Lockwood!)

Reunited and it feels so... bad? That's what happens when Damon returns to The Vampire Diaries only to find out that things have changed — especially for his love Elena — while he was gone.
"All that he wanted was to come home to his girl and just hold her and have her say everything is going to be OK, and it doesn't pan out that way," Ian Somerhalder told TVGuide.com during our recent visit to the show's Atlanta set.
After escaping the '90s, Damon returns to his friends but is shocked to find that Elena (Nina Dobrev) has wiped her knowledge of loving him. But now that Elena is aware of what Alaric (Matt Davis) did, will she restore her memories or move on with her life at Whitmore College? Somerhalder says Damon will do everything he can to help her choose the former.
"At the end of the day, it is for love and he's going to try everything he can to get her back and win her back," he says in our video below. "And I think along that journey, he's going to realize not only has he done bad things, [but] he's done some extraordinary things [and] he's a fiercely loyal boyfriend and brother."
Adds Dobrev, "The show was so Delena-heavy and their love was such an epic love and such a big story point for so many years that it's a strange dynamic now to have all that gone. Which is kind of what makes it interesting because it's an Elena we've never seen before."
Vampire Diaries scoop on Damon and Elena, please! — Samantha Did you watch our interview with Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev? As for how Damon will feel when he finds out that Elena's memory has been erased, it's not pretty. "He'll be pretty pissed at [Alaric] ... and can't imagine for the life of him why his best friend would do this," Somerhalder says. Fortunately, Damon's reunion with Stefan will go better — and snap Stefan out of his funk. "He's going through his dark phase, but he comes around," Paul Wesley says. "They're going to hug it out."
Sara Sabulsky: Any scoop on when or how Damon and Elena's reuniting will go?! And how will Stefan deal with him coming back? #broment From Vampire Diaries queen Julie Plec herself: "Now that Damon's finally back, he won't waste another second being without Elena. But with her memories compelled away, she's not nearly as enthused by the prospect of seeing him. Stefan was feeling lost, but the look on his face when Damon returned in last week's episode says it all. The bond between these brothers is stronger than ever." Julie adds, "When it comes to Damon, without the good, there's a whole lot of bad. And Elena's still very much focused on that. However, not knowing the full story of their relationship will eventually begin to gnaw at her, and she'll have to decide if that's something she can live with."
Danielle: Now that Bonnie sent Damon home, have we seen the last of Kai on The Vampire Diaries? Doesn't sound like it! Christopher Wood, the totally sane (and hot!) guy behind the mass-murdering, family-killing sociopath, told us we're going to learn more about Kai's past. "We know that the reason that he's locked in this prison world is because he massacred his family," Wood said. "But we don't necessarily quite know much about what he was like before that incident. Was he a good kid? Was he normal? Did something happen to him? Or was he always difficult and challenging and this was just one of many things that happened? We'll learn more about that as the show goes on."
Theresa: I'm kind of scared by how much I'm loving Kai on The Vampire Diaries. What's he really up to? We've been wondering that very same thing, so we went straight to the mass-murdering, sociopathic witch himself! "For me the most fun elements of Kai is learning what he can, can't and is trying to do," Chris Wood told us. "Nothing is ever what it seems with Kai and I think that his connection to Bonnie and Damon at the moment and what he wants to do and plans to do when he gets out of this prison world is going to be very exciting for fans to see."

Are Elena's memories of Damon really gone for good on The Vampire Diaries? — Jenna Looks like it! But when has Damon ever backed down from a challenge? In a swoon-worthy scene, Damon will fill Elena in on some of their relationship's pivotal moments, Season 3's hot hotel makeout included. But it's Elena whose frustration gets the best of her, and she ends up risking her life to get those memories back. Will it work? Just when they — and viewers — have given up hope, prepare for a scene that will leave you screaming. (Or is it squealing?)

Annie Wersching joins The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Photo by Charley Gallay/Getty Images for Amazon Studios
Posted by Theo on December 18, 2014 at 4:14 PM Now that Kai has ever-so-graciously siphoned all the magic from the Traveler’s enchanted border, expect mysterious tourists to start pouring in. (Let’s not even pretend that “mingling with sexy-ass bloodsuckers” isn’t the real reason why anyone would ever bother visiting this remote murder capitol of the television world one Grille kinda town.) First up? Annie Wersching!
The gorgeous actress, who played Renee Walker on 24 and Dr. Kelly Nieman on Castle — and has guest starred on numerous well-known shows such as Dallas, Extant, and General Hospital — has been cast in upcoming installments of The Vampire Diaries Season 6 and will make her official debut in episode 6×15. According to TVLine, she is taking on the recurring role of a “beautiful and strong” woman named Lilly, who is described as “articulate and caustic.” Apparently she has a fierce tendency to protect her loved ones regardless of the cost — so if you mess with anyone she holds dear, you will rue the day you were born.
CBS Television Studios & Amblin Television's "Extant" Premiere - Red Carpet
That being said, who do you think Lilly is related to? Do you think she’s a part of the Gemini coven and has any relation to Dr. Jo, the Parker twins, and crazy Malachi? Post your predictions in the comments!

Elena's resolutions for 2015 include escaping Kai's clutches -- who could she be calling in this photo from the winter premiere? -- and rekindling her romance with Damon. Meanwhile, Caroline will focus her attention on Sheriff Forbes' cancer diagnosis (Is there a supernatural cure?), requiring her to spend more time with Stefan. "What we'll come to see is that their relationship will be shaped by [her mom's illness]," EP Caroline Dries reveals. Elsewhere, Bonnie will return to the present with a new "badass" outlook on life. "She's learning to put herself first," says exec producer Julie Plec, who adds that Bonnie's beau will also undergo big changes. "Jeremy needs to figure out what he wants out of life, and that journey will be kickstarted by the realization that he's in his own prison." (That explains her tweet about Jer applying to art school!) Also on tap for '15: Enzo will fall in lust, a set of twins will merge, 24's Annie Wersching recurs as a "caustic" mystery lady, and a major character will kick the bucket.

Vampire Scoop: 'Delena' Get Happy! — Plus: The Originals' Klaus vs. Elijah?
Are The Vampire Diaries‘ Damon and Elena on the road to happily ever after?
The upcoming episodes of the CW series will find the lovebirds “finally working their way back towards each other,” executive producer Julie Plec previewed at a Television Critics Association press tour panel in Pasadena on Sunday. As the couple strives for “a functional relationship,” fans will be treated to the beginning stages of their romance that they missed the first time around.
That pleased star Ian Somerhalder, who noted, “The three or four [or] five months that were skipped over, the honeymoon phase, you don’t typically get to see Damon in a time and space where he’s truly happy.”
“It’s great to see anyone happy at any time,” he continued, adding that Damon and Elena are “extremely deserving” of some happiness. “They’ve been through a lot. Love trumps all. So when you see, you want it to win.”
But everything can’t be peaceful on the show, so the Gemini merger will “culminate with a lot of drama and death,” EP Caroline Dries teased.
While no end date is in sight for The Vampire Diaries, Plec said she and Kevin Williamson crafted their “perfect” ending a while ago. However, since “the show is going to go on longer than we could have dreamt of,” the concept has “evolved.”
“But it’s still rooted in that same idea. We’re still on that same path,” she continued.
As for spinoff The Originals, the back half of the season will explore Esther’s origins as a witch, the deal she had to make and more of the family mythology. And of course, the looming threat of witch Dahlia to Hope’s safety is prevalent.
“The big question is will she show up and come for that child?” EP Michael Narducci teased, adding that Klaus might have a different strategy for protecting his young daughter than Elijah.
"We're actually saying goodbye to one of our characters in the 14th episode," executive producer Julie Plec tellsb TVGuide.com. "[Jeremy] is going to art school. We'll see what his next path and journey is, [but Steven R. McQueen] is all grown-up and ready to move on, so we're saying goodbye to him as a series regular. We got him a cake and dressed as superheroes and gave him a big party!" Plec adds about the sendoff.

Vampire Diaries Boss Talks Delena's 'Emotional Obstacles,' More Steroline Twists and Another Big Death 'Soon'
Happiness is always a rarity on The Vampire Diaries, but it sounds like the drama’s Jan. 22 return (The CW, 8/7c) will find our favorite couples more divided than ever — at least initially.
With seven days until TVD‘s glorious return, TVLine caught up with executive producer Julie Plec for seven teases about what’s to come. Think of this interview as your personal vampire-themed Advent calendar — or you can just read all the answers in one sitting. This is America.
TVLINE | Kai seems to be the only obstacle standing between Damon and Elena at the moment. Will any additional problems arise? There are a lot of emotional obstacles, the little details. Can Elena get right with her feelings for him? Is she falling in love with him all over again? As they fight the bad guys, deal with loss and grief, character exits, that kind of thing … do they stay strong, or do they drift apart? I’d really like to see them make it and be happy for a little while.
TVLINE | We’re loving Kai. How long will he stick around? That’s the problem when you have an actor who’s so great and who the audience responds to as a villain. You have to take stock: Is there more that I can do with this character outside of his run as this year’s villain? If so, you have to come up with the right way to do it, and if not, you have to let the heroes get the win over the villain. Every day, we talk about Kai, and we debate it. It’s an ongoing conversation.
TVLINE | Who has a better chance of surviving: Sheriff Forbes or Steroline? [Laughs] I think that both of them have some pretty extreme hurdles to cross. Both story lines are going to be incredibly emotional, no matter how much you look at it
TVLINE | We know Stefan will be helping Caroline save her mom. Will that bring them closer together? At first, it’s going to shore up their friendship and bring up more of those romantic questions. But I can’t guarantee there won’t be a stumbling block or two that prevents them from seeing things clearly.
TVLINE | Do you have a time frame for Bonnie’s return from 1994? What will her biggest adjustments be? We can expect it by the end of the run of this next chapter, which is approximately Episodes 11 to 15. It changes her forever. She’s been to hell and back, so to speak, and she’s had to do a lot of it on her own. Anyone who goes through an experience that isolating and that lonely isn’t going to come back ready to dive back into their old life. We’ll see her try to find her way and heal herself. We’ll see if her friendship with Damon is true, and if he’s someone who can help her heal.
TVLINE | How is Sarah Salvatore going to factor into the story as we know it now? Sarah Salvatore factors into the story right away when we come back from the hiatus. Stefan hears that Caroline’s going to Duke to talk to a researcher who specializes in her mom’s condition. So he hitches a ride and goes to check in on Sarah, make sure she’s still doing OK. Only this time, he’s had someone follow him who’s also checking on Sarah, which is Enzo. Stefan knows that all the work he’s done to keep this girl away from the supernatural is jeopardized by the fact that Enzo knows who she is.
TVLINE | You also recently teased a big death on Twitter. When can we expect that? There’s going to be at least one major death coming — and soon. I think the death count by the end of this season is going to be astonishingly high.
TVLINE | Do you have an end in sight? How much further beyond Season 7 could the show go? When you’re dealing with a show like The Vampire Diaries, which kind of gave the network a boost it really needed, and has continued to have such a loyal and passionate fan base, I don’t think we necessarily get to make the decision about when it’s over. The decision will be made by a lot of things: How much story is left to tell? How many actors are left to tell that story? How many shows like The Flash will come along, with great success, so that the network doesn’t necessarily need us in the way they used to? That could take a couple years, or it could go on as long as possible.

Tristan Mays has landed the recurring role of Sarah on The CW's recently renewed vampire drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The real Sarah — The Vampire Diaries introduced a faux Sarah earlier in the season, who was an old friend of Sarah's — is described as a bright and gifted student of photography, whose life is turned upside down as she unravels the mystery of her true family history.
Mays will make her debut on The CW series during the Jan. 22 episode.
“The Day I Tried to Live” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BONNIE — Determined to celebrate Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) birthday, Elena (Nina Dobrev) convinces Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) that it’s what Bonnie would have wanted. After piecing the broken ascendant back together, Elena, Jeremy and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) attempt to send Bonnie a message, but the situation turns dire when they make an unsettling discovery. Meanwhile, after uncovering Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) secret about his great-niece Sarah Salvatore (guest star Tristan Mays), Enzo (Michael Malarkey) enlists a reluctant Matt (Zach Roerig) to help interfere with her life. Elsewhere, Stefan keeps a close eye on Caroline (Candice Accola) as she unconventionally attempts to cope with everything going on around her. Lastly, realizing it might be time to move on with his life, Jeremy contemplates leaving Mystic Falls for good. Pascal Verschooris directed the episode written by Chad Fiveash & James Stoteraux (#613). Original airdate 2/5/2015.
Is Enzo going to do anything other than torture Stefan for the rest of the season on The Vampire Diaries? — Dina Yes and no. In his attempts to torture Stefan, Enzo “sort of insinuates himself into Sarah Salvatore’s [Tristin Mays] life,” Julie Plec teases, adding, “but Sarah’s pretty.” Does that mean it will turn romantic? “Let’s just say that one of our inspirations for this story is Les Liaisons Dangereuses, like that John Malkovich, Dangerous Liasons kind of vibe where you get into something for one reason but then you maybe get surprised by the outcome.” But don’t get too attached to the potential couple just yet. Plec promised that Enzo, in his typical fashion, is more than capable of screwing it up.

Cangel_SC: Steroline spoilers please :) thank you #TVD You're very welcome. For what? This nugget of very good news from Julie Plec: "Obviously, Caroline is going through a ton and Stefan as a lot of ground to make up, in terms of being a good friend. He really does step up and does work hard to win her friendship back and he is her rock through the whole experience. It really bonds them beautifully and will lead to questions about are there feelings there, can those feelings go anywhere? We'll see how that plays out over the rest of the season."
'Vampire Diaries' star Paul Wesley on why he cut a shirtless scene from the episode he directed
Last season, The Vampire Diaries‘ Paul Wesley took a seat behind the camera for his directorial debut with “Resident Evil,” after which he let it slip that he had cut a shirtless Stefan scene. Now in season six, Wesley has returned to the director’s chair for this week’s “Woke Up With a Monster.” And although he might be more comfortable in his directorial role this time around, one thing hasn’t changed: He’s still cutting shirtless scenes.
Wesley talked to EW about his experience directing the episode, what fans can expect, and that shirtless moment we’ll never see.
EW: Did you find that directing was easier the second time around? PAUL WESLEY: It was easier on me mentally. I’ll tell you why else it was easier: I literally had no locations. My entire episode was indoors, on the studio, so I didn’t have to worry about weather, I didn’t have to worry about the sun going down. It’s a rare, rare thing. But apart from the logistics of it, I was much more comfortable in the director chair. I really trusted the process and it was a really pleasurable experience. Not that the other one wasn’t; it just was like I felt more comfortable in my own skin, in a way.
Going into it, was there anything you knew you wanted to do differently from your first experience with directing? I definitely let go of some control, and by that I mean you just let people do their jobs. And not that I didn’t do that on the last one—it’s just that I really wanted everything to go so well that I almost was mentally psyching myself out. [But] on this one I was like, “I know how this is going to go, I know what’s going to happen, I know what I’m going to do, and I know what everyone else is capable of, so I’m going to trust the process.” Don’t get me wrong, there’s still bumps in the road, but that comes with the job.
In this episode, we know Kai is hiding Elena. Did that mystical element present a challenge for you? This episode in my opinion is a much more grounded episode. It’s actually not as mystical. There’s not a lot of mythology in my episode; it’s really about the more tender moments. The best and most exciting moments are the moments when we step away from all of that and we really get down to some beautiful interaction between two characters that is really intimate. What I love about my episode is that it is fast-paced, fast-paced, fast-paced, exciting, entertaining, and then it sort of slows down and there’s this moment of real tenderness, which I think is so important on our show. It’s all about the people and there’s some really beautiful moments and amazing performances. I’m excited about that interesting sort of juxtaposition.
Speaking of those moments, we know that Stefan and Caroline are headed to North Carolina. But Stefan is also secretly going to see Sarah Salvatore, so is he still being a good friend to Caroline? Yeah, for sure. He really cares about her. He really loves her. That’s not even a question. That’s never really something that he doubts. But it’s true; in the story they go there together, but then they kind of separate. They kind of go their own ways to do their own things and investigate their own personal interests. With Sarah coming into present day, how will seeing her affect Stefan? I don’t really know what their relationship is like. We haven’t explored it a hell of a lot, but for me—it sounds a little weird since they look like they’re the same age—but it’s almost like his little daughter that he’s proud of. It’s like his little project. It’s almost like he’s her godfather. [He’s] like, “Okay, I’m going to look out for this kid.”
The last time you directed, you talked about taking out a shirtless scene. Were there any last-minute tweaks this time around? I actually think I took out a shirtless scene again. You did not. I swear to God. Stefan wakes up and then he has to walk around the house and I’m like, “Does he wake up shirtless and then you want me to do like nine scenes shirtless, walking around the house? This is ridiculous. He wakes up, I need to put a shirt on.” That was my pitch. Because that’s what I would do. If I had to go downstairs and talk to [people], I would put a shirt on. It’s like the Playgirl mansion or something… Ian Somerhalder is currently directing his first episode. Did you give him any advice? You know, not really. He didn’t really ask me for any so I didn’t offer any. [Laughs] I think the biggest advice I would give to any actor who’s directing and also acting at the same time is don’t even watch your coverage. You do a scene and then, you know what you did, it doesn’t matter what you look like. Ask your DP if the focus was good, ask him if the shot looks good, trust your DP and move on. Otherwise you’re going to spend hours criticizing yourself because that’s what we do as actors. We’re never satisfied with ourselves. Maybe I’ll watch literally six seconds of it just to make sure that it was set up the way I wanted to, but other than that, I do not want to watch myself. I have no interest in watching myself act.

Mega Buzz: Who's Ready for Another Damon-and-Elena Kiss on The Vampire Diaries?
by Robyn Ross | Jan 20, 2015 8:00 PM EST
Vampire Diaries fans got one of their biggest wishes earlier this season when a flashback showed Damon and Elena kiss in the rain. But when will the two reignite their romance in the present day?
Sooner than you might think. We're hearing that Elena (Nina Dobrev) will be out from under Kai's spell by the Jan. 29 episode. And once Elena realizes the gravity of Sheriff Forbes' fatal tumor, her grief leads her back into the arms of Damon (Ian Somerhalder). At that point, things will really heat up between the two of them as the show gives them a period of relative calm.
"There was an entire honeymoon period of their relationship that we did not play on camera," executive producer Julie Plec tells TVGuide.com. "We didn't get to write it, they didn't get to act it and the fans didn't get to see it. As Damon and Elena are finding their way back to each other, in spite of all the obstacles that have been in their way, they've earned a moment of happiness." Adds executive producer Caroline Dries: "There's a fun simplicity in them talking about what date to go on, the baby steps of a relationship. Seeing them go through it reminds us we love them as a couple."
Get more scoop from Plec, Dries and Somerhalder in the video below.

'The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder Talks Delena: It's a 'New Love Story'
Get ready to feel some butterflies, Delena Fans!
The Vampire Diaries returns tonight with its highly anticipated mid-season premiere, and we know that many of you have been dying to discover what's next for our favorite Mystic Falls residents. Luckily, after enduring countless heart-breaking episodes, it seems like things are finally looking up in the romance department between Damon and Elena.
ETonline sat down with TVD star Ian Solmerhalder and co-executive producer Caroline Dries at the TCA Winter Press Tour last week to get the scoop on what's next for the star-crossed vampires as they navigate through their newest jaw-dropping obstacle: the awkward first date.
Throughout the first half of Season 6, Damon and Elena have been forced to fight for their love. They're not just getting their happy ending handed to them on a silver platter. And despite the agony, it's creating a "worth the wait" type of scenario. And when ETonline caught up with Somerhalder, this was an observation that the 36-year-old-actor wholeheartedly agreed with.
"Actually that's a really awesome observation," Somerhalder said. "They haven't just been handed this. In the past we've fast-forwarded through a lot of the cool, gushy parts that you would typically see in a new love story, so I think that Damon being in this space of who he loves genuinely gives him a sense of purpose."
"When an audience sees that sense of purpose in Damon, I think it makes them very happy. And I enjoy it as well," he continued. "And I think that the one thing that [fans] can expect again, because it's The Vampire Diaries, for every minute of screen time of happiness, you're going to have five minutes of drama, f—ked up, and people trying to kill us."
Fans were devastated at the end of the mid-season finale when Damon and Elena were this close to rekindling their romance — only to discover Kai's wicked plan to steal a magically invisible Elena away from the Salvatore house.
"I knew the fans would hate that and I'm so happy that they did," executive producer Caroline Dries said with a laugh. "I just remember when we thought of that, it was perfect — let's just ruin everyone's hopes and dreams and let's add mistletoe to make it even worse."
Calm down, Delena fans—don’t' be grabbing those torches and pitchforks just yet! Dries promised that there's a bigger plan in the works and the outcome will be worth this tortuous wait. "I always want to say [to the fans], 'Trust me. We know what we're doing. We know what we're doing.'"
And what they're doing is setting up a side of Damon and Elena's relationship that viewers have never seen before: the adorable dating phase. "It's more of that courting period of, 'Do we go on a date?' 'Where would you want to go?' the EP explained. "When you see Damon be a normal, human, twenty-whatever-year-old, it's refreshing and fun, and what we don't normally get to see."
Dries teased that Delena fans should get ready to feel some "butterflies" as Elena attempts to re-fall in love with Damon. "As they re-connect — she's been compelled to forget that she loved him —those feelings are still in her," Dires said. "So it's like what do we do? We don’t just jump into bed together. We're going to be normal so, 'Should we go out to dinner?' It's like the fun kind of boring stuff that you would never want to tell but now it's interesting because we've never seen it before."
Somerhalder spilled that he believes it's "important" for the Damon and Elena fans to focus on the positive side of things. "That glimmer of hope usually turns into some really gnarly things but it's a give-and-take," he said. "I think that there's some really great stuff coming up, some great Damon and Elena stuff."
Bonus Scoop: For those fans who are wondering if Damon could have any deep-seeded romantic feelings for Bonnie, Dries was quick to shut that thought down. "I think it's a deep profound friendship that he even doesn't admit is a friendship," she said. "I know there are a lot of eager Bamon fans out there, but for now no. His eyes are on Elena 100 percent."
The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.

Executive Producer Caroline Dries Talks THE VAMPIRE DIARIES by Christina Radish
With The Vampire Diaries back on The CW, the power-hungry witch Kai (Chris Wood) is hell-bent on making the twin merge take place with his sister Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe). Meanwhile, Caroline’s (Candice Accola) plan to cure her mother (Marguerite MacIntyre) takes an unexpected and devastating turn, and she needs the help and support of Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to deal with a very real and human issue.
While at The CW portion of the TCA Winter Press Tour, executive producer Caroline Dries spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about getting Elena and Damon back on the same page, giving Elena the chance to grow as a woman, what Kai’s intentions are for Elena, where things are headed between Caroline and Stefan, the bond between Damon and Bonnie (Kat Graham), human mortality, what’s to come with Enzo (Michael Malarkey), what Paul Wesley is like, as a director, and just how much longer she sees the show going. Check out what she had to say and be aware that there are some spoilers.
Collider: How much fun is it to work on a show where anything can happen to anyone, at any time?
CAROLINE DRIES: That might be one of the luxuries or benefits of having 22 episodes. We bitch and moan about, “Oh, it’s so much work.” We don’t want to drag stories out or have filler episodes, but you also have freedom to zig-zag a little bit and be a little crazier ‘cause it stretches it out more. So, it’s been fun.
Just when you finally get Elena and Damon almost back on the same page again, Kai gets in the middle of them. What can you say about how that will play out?
DRIES: Kai has a very specific need for Elena, which is that he has absorbed magic from the Traveler spell, and that’s way more magic than he’s ever had rippling through his veins. His goal, which he’s made very clear from day one, is to merge with Jo. But what he comes to realize is that he’s never had this much magic before, so what if he touches Jo and she eviscerates. So, he’s trying to learn how to hone his magic, and he’s using Elena as a crash test dummy because she can’t really die and he can keep at it. And Damon wonders, “Where the heck is my gal? She never showed up. What’s going on?” So, he makes it his mission to find her. As they finally do come face to face and reconnect, we get to play at the story that would have happened, if Kai hadn’t grabbed her. We show the beginning stages of the Damon-Elena relationship that we’ve never seen before, with beats of them trying to figure out where to go to dinner, what to do on a date, and really simple, human things that we’ve actually never gotten to witness in their relationship. It’s a story that reminds us why we love the Damon and Elena relationship. It reminds us that it’s a simple love story.
Could you ever have imagined that you’d get to a point where you could go back to the beginning?
DRIES: No. As a writer, I’ve worked on the show for so long, and it was such a breakthrough when we came up with that idea because we get to redo their love story, in a way, and it comes with all the baggage. We’re constantly looking for ways to keep things fresh, but not feel fake. This really came at the right time and felt earned. He died and she was traumatized, so of course, she wanted to forget that love. It just worked out that we could tell that story, in a new way.
Was one of the advantages of taking those memories away the fact that it could allow Elena to find her own inner strength again?
DRIES: Yeah. As a feminist, I think you never want to have your characters defined by the relationships that they’re in, and it did give her a chance to be a sophomore in college without a boyfriend. She didn’t get that before. Who is she, as a student? Who does she want to be when she grows up, even though she’s never going to grow up? What are her career aspirations? Who is she besides Damon’s girlfriend, and besides being the object of his eye? It was fun to just see Elena as a growing woman.
With Kai, did you intentionally want to bring in a villain with a very heightened sense of danger, to off-set the characters that are your heroes, but have done villainous things?
DRIES: Totally. That’s a good point. You want to make things feel heightened, and that there is the possibility that somebody could do something horrible. And Enzo is pretty unpredictable, as well, but he’s so likeable and charming that you forgot that he’s the villain. Every season, we sit down and workshop and talk about the next season, and usually one of the things we talk about is who the big bad is for the season and how we make it different from the big bad of the last season. We had Silas and we had Klaus, who are these immortal things. Julie [Plec] was like, “What if we just had a sociopath? What if we just had somebody with no redeeming qualities, who won’t soften because he likes a girl? He’s just a monster.” That’s what we really liked about that character. And then, as the character evolved, we came up with the siphoning thing and had him be a Gemini to have it all connect. That’s where it came from. It’s been fun to write Kai ‘cause Chris [Wood] is such a good actor, and you can throw blocks of dialogue at him and be like, “Here, read this.” He really is becoming a fan favorite villain.
Can Damon and Elena ever have more than one moment of happiness together, before it all blows up in their face?
DRIES: No, and that’s what you’ll find out. Their attempts are pretty funny. Their attempts at planning a date and the scenario it’s all happening in is so chaotic. But then, they remember to take these moments and really appreciate that they have each other. It actually hangs a lantern on how special they are to each other, when they only have these glimpses to be together.
Bonnie and Damon never liked each other, until they were really forced to depend on and be there for each other. And Caroline and Stefan gradually developed such a beautiful friendship that viewers just wanted to see more and more of. When did you start to realize that you could take both of those relationships in the way that you have?
DRIES: We saw the Caroline and Stefan one a few seasons ago, when he was teaching her how to control her vampirism. She kind of replaced Lexi in his life. She became that girl that would talk back to him, but there wasn’t a love chemistry between them. They were just friends. Now, she’s growing up and she’s realizing what she’s looking for in a partner, and Stefan has all of those qualities because he’s a really great, awesome guy, and it’s harder for her to just be friends with him, as she’s made clear. With the Damon-Bonnie thing, they’ve just always worked as not liking each other. They’re just the Bickersons, and that’s their dynamic, period. But when we decided that it was time for Bonnie to have to make this sacrifice and get whisked off, who better to put her with than the person she doesn’t want to be with, and vice versa for Damon. And then, all of a sudden, this great chemistry emerged. They still bickered the whole time that they were in the prison world, but you saw that they really care about each other. Damon’s arc will be, “How do I get my friend back?” He doesn’t even admit that he’s her friend, but we all know that he has a soft spot for her now. Fans want them to get together, but we’re going to keep it platonic. There’s just a deep friendship there. Damon has spent more time with Bonnie, on screen, than he’s spent with Alaric or the sheriff, or any of his other buddies. It’s probably the most earned friendship on the show. It was really defined when Kai came into it because the dynamic of that triangle is, “I can make fun of my family, but you can’t make fun of my family.”
If you more deeply explore the relationship between Stefan and Caroline, do you also worry about ruining what everyone loves about them?
DRIES: Yeah, that’s totally something that is a fear, for any show, when you bring two characters together. That’s why we’ve always said, from the beginning, we’ll earn it in baby step, slowly but surely, and if we feel like it’s not working on screen, we won’t do it. But Caroline has chemistry with everyone, and Stefan needs that feminine touch in his life to really bring out his funny side. They are just working, and I think it’s because we’re taking it so slowly and so honestly. We’re not just throwing people together to have sex scene ‘cause that’s not really what our show is. It feels like it’s working, so hopefully the fans will embrace the way we’re going about it.
What made you want to explore how mortal humans really are, with what’s going on with Caroline’s mother?
DRIES: We wanted to give Caroline a bigger storyline that didn’t necessarily involve her liking someone or being in a love triangle. We also love Marguerite [MacIntyre] so much that we wanted to give her some material that’s great. The reason that we did it now is because, in Season 6, it’s really where the profoundness of a very human enemy really resonates. You’re just so embroiled in supernatural, all the time, that all of a sudden, it feels that much more dramatic.
With everything Bonnie has experienced in the prison world, how will that change her, if/when she ever gets back to her friends?
DRIES: We’re going to see Bonnie continue to try to adjust to life in the prison world. She tried to have Christmas, and it just made things worse for her. She’s going to have a birthday in the prison world, which is going to be worse. She’s really going to hit rock bottom before she pulls herself up by the bootstraps and says, “You know what? Let me get out of here!” She will finally find her way back, and it will come at the perfect time for our friends, who are in need of a friend rejuvenation and beautiful reunion. So, she comes back and is emotionally scarred from it. She doesn’t want to admit to that. She just wants to be like, “Great, I’m back! Let’s do this! Here are the clothes I left behind. Here’s my music. Let’s go to a party!” But, that’s not how reality actually works. She is scarred by it, and it will be a big issue for her. That feeling of being left behind is something where she’s like, “Never again!” That’s her motto.
This is a show where you hear from its very vocal fan following. Have there been storylines where you didn’t get the response that you expected you would?
DRIES: The notion of the twin merge is such a weird concept, and we just get used to talking about it and saying, “Okay, that’s what they’re gonna do for the merge.” But then, watching that Thanksgiving episode, I was like, “This is really weird, what we are asking the audience to embrace. They merge? What even is that?” But, the audience totally embraced it and loved it. I was like, “Okay, good. They’re used to us by now. The audience is with us.” But, there hasn’t been any real fall-out. People really, really like Kai, which I’m glad about. But they always love the villains, even though they’re the meanest character on the show.
What can we expect from Enzo, coming up?
DRIES: What he said to Stefan in Episode 2 was, “You were not a good brother to Damon. You gave up on Damon. You’re not worthy of being treated like a family member.” Something Enzo has never had, which you’ll come to learn, is that he’s never had a family and he’s never had a brother, and you’ll learn why he values it so much. You’ll learn more about his backstory in future episodes, and you’ll get to understand his motivations for why he’s got such a vendetta for Stefan. So, he’s going to end up luring Sarah Salvatore into the fold, and that’s what he’s going to use Matt for. We saw him grab Matt and turn the tables on him, and he’s got a little agenda. To get revenge on Stefan, it’s going to involve Sarah.
This show has passed the point that most shows never get to, with six seasons now and the renewal for a seventh. How much longer do you see it going?
DRIES: Every year, I’m like, “I don’t have any more ideas!” And then, we’ll think of something like Elena compelling Damon away and Kai, and there’s a whole season, right there. So, I’m going into Season 7 with that mind-set. We’ll think about it and, hopefully, we’ll strike gold again. We work with 10 really, really, really smart writers with big brains and a lot of ideas, so somebody has gotta think of something. Julie [Plec] would never let the show drive itself into the ground. If we’re out of ideas and we’re honest about it, we’ll end the show.
What’s it like to work with the actors when they direct an episode?
DRIES: It’s so interesting. Paul [Wesley] has a very strong point of view for what he wants. They don’t come to it from a very producorial background. It’s like, “Well, I know that’s what you want, but this is a TV show. You have two hours to shoot that. We can’t afford that.” But, it’s fun. Paul knows the show better than anyone, so it’s a dream.

The Vampire Diaries' Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite Macintyre) might not be dead yet, but Caroline (Candice Accola) is handling her mom's fatal diagnosis the only way she knows how: Planning ahead.
"We find [Caroline] in [this week's] episode with her mom still fully alive planning the funeral and picking out flower arrangements because she just doesn't know what to do with all this," executive producer Julie Plec tells TVGuide.com in the video above. "In next week's episode, she's looking for the original Miss Cuddles that we learn she had something to do with the demise of back when she and Bonnie were six. She's all over the map having a hard time facing her mom and dealing with the fact that there's an expiration date on her mother's life."
But Caroline won't be the only one rocked by the tragic circumstances.
"It affects Damon a great deal," Ian Somerhalder says. "Damon and Liz Forbes have a total love for each other; she has been very good to him. Damon likes to control things in life by virtue of being hurt... he wants to turn the valve down to [prevent] any other outside forces he can't control come in. Liz is one of those things where the valve is open and gushing and crushes him."
Adds Plec: "We'll learn that the sheriff was Elena and Jeremy's rock when their parents first passed so in a way Sheriff Forbes has always been a surrogate mother figure to Elena. Everyone has their own personal reaction to the circumstance she's in and it really makes them think and brings them closer together and of course for some people they need to remove themselves."
As for how (and who) it brings together, we know the impact it will have on Damon and Elena, but Plec adds: "We get to see Stefan and Caroline's friendship re-solidify and then confront the feelings they may or may not have for each other. There's a lot of good, happy stuff going on in the midst of this big s--t storm."
Are you sad about Forbes' impending death?
The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.
